A couple weks ago. You go into setting and you have to turn dv on yes. Its in display settings. Be warned it will make tv say everything is dv if you leave it on there is no auto detect i am aware of. The player it self will say its a hdr disc.

Having said that, I plan on picking one up. And there is no "DV proprietary chip", Dolby Vision is software based. |

In early 2017, Dolby released a software based DV. (and unofficially conducted a PoC on PlatStation 4 platform.)

So I just received this. It works great. The DV thing is weird but I’m already switching disks so an extra button press doesn’t bother me I guess.
I’m really impressed with UHD BR but damn, this is the first time I’ve seen reg BRs upscale and they look great too! Idk how that’s possible. I really noticed how some movies look better than others. Logan didn’t look as crisp as Thor Ragnarok and Fifth Element has a lot of film grain. All in all I’m loving it. I’m surprised BRs can look as crisp as they do on here. |

From the manual:
[4K Upscale Setting] [Auto1]: Outputs 2K (1920 × 1080) video signals during video playback and 4K video signals during photo/Network Services/ Miracast playback when connecting to a Sony 4K-compatible equipment. Outputs 4K video signals when connecting to a non-Sony 4K-compatible equipment. This setting does not work for 3D video image playback. [Auto2]: Automatically outputs 4K video signals when you connect a 4K-compatible equipment. [Off]: Turns off the function. From a previous thread and alot eaier to understand.: Auto1 sends 2k to TV(And thus the TV do upscaling). Auto2 sends 4K to TV. Thus the Disc Player do the upscaling |

I doubt there is any real noticeable difference. My TV does a great job of upscaling, so I have mine set to Auto 1 (default)

I have an X700 coming Thursday. The first thing I do when I buy new electronics is download the user manual PDF to get familiar with the settings. You can get the Sony User Manual here:

FHD (1080p) to UHD (2160p) scaling is extremely easy process as it’s the exact 2x2 integer scaling. You won’t be able to tell any differences on modern devices whether the scaling is done on TV or source player.

![]() I prefer to play 1080p BD on my standard Panny BD player and UHD BD on my LG870. My X700 arrives tomorrow, so we'l see . . |
