The DV switching continously on/off reminds of my Samsung K8500 connected to my Samsung KS8000 with Denon AVR X2200 in between them - it took me much try outs to find the right cable and then it worked without the HDR10 on/off only by using 2 separate HDMI cables, 1 for picture and 1 for sound.

Then I sold the Sammy UHD player and bought a Sony X800 and HDR10 worked from the go with only 1 HDMI cable for both sound and picture.

My Sony X930e TV and Yamaha RX-A870 receiver work perfectly to deliver Dolby Vision with the X700! Which is a relief since all three needed firmware updates to do Dolby Vision! Great to finally have it! (just hoping for an update for the X700 to automatically switch from Dolby Vision and HDR10)

Anyone knows how to check if your x700 is outputting DV to the TV?
During video playback with the UHD Blu-ray I clicked on the display button on the remote and it shows HDR, etc but no DV icon.
Using Sony X8000E (US X800E equivalent) which was already updated with DV firmware.

on my Sony X930e TV, the Picture Adjustments Menu under Picture Mode should say Dolby Vision if it's being outputted.

On the AVS Forum Airmax indicated HDMI2 port on his LG OLED worked to prevent on off flashing while watching UHD disc movies.

Thinking about what he said. I switched the HDMI cable from the Sony UPB X700 to HDMI 3 port on my LG E6 OLED. That seem to make the x700 DV Atmos App stable. Stopped On Off Screen Flickering. I had problems flickering when the x700 was conected to the HDMI 2 port of my LG TV.

HDMI 2 on my OLED is the ARC port. I gather x700 ARC has problematic communication with LG OLED ARC port. Tho my LG OLED was not configured with ARC on.

I will try more x700 Apps switching, testing. To see if everything remains stable. And as well pop in a few DV and HDR10 discs.

X700 VUDU App PQ movie images are impressively sharp.
X700 VUDU App Atmos sounds really great directed to my Onkyo AVR to my Klipsch Atmos speakers.

Obviously the x700 disc player do video processing onto the VUDU App visuals.

I brought my x700 mainly as a streaming box. Guess Funny be me.

Has Sony expressed any desire or willingness to address the forced DV with a future firmware update? I don't mind having to turn the feature on, but it forcing everything NOT DV into a DV profile until I remember to turn it off is really annoying.

If I can get rid of my X800 for decent price, I intend on picking one of these up ASAP.

I wonder if this x700 will get any cheaper than the x800 did on Black Friday at $150, like approach maybe say $100. I mean, it already hit $179...

Just perused several select chapters of 1080p Blu Ray movie
Kingdom of Heaven with Olando and Eva Green.

With x700 DV set on... the PQ was very Chrisp and Clear.
Amazingly So. My LG OLED was set for Deep Color. DV Colors very rich. DV Badge on my TV came up.

Wow! By my eyes what I saw in its way rivals HDR10. Maybe more as I dial in my OLED's picture mode DV Movie Bright(user). Later.

YouTube App PQ impressive. As was Vudu App and Netflix. One cannot but notice how Sharp the visuals were. Great job by Sony for sure.

Everything was Stable!

Im finding myself leaving X700 DV set on.

Hmmmmm. Thinking. I gather if I pop in a HDR10 disc like Mad Max it'll go DV. I should compare DV set on vs DV set off.
Holy gosh. I not know what Im going to think.

Disclaimer. I own an OPPO 203 and the LG UP970(my personal favorite, PQ-Wise). And from their remote's picture modes settings selections I've attained Superb, Magnificient Visuals. To 1080p, HDR10, 3D discs. From and For Natural format So To Speak.

X700 played onto LG E6 OLED.

PQ Impressions:

Gorgious Colors.
Details very Sharp and Chrisp.

The DV Dynamic MetaData processing by the x700 will, it's PQ, please A Very Many.

My next purchase will be the x700. Moving into a house. The bonus room will be the theater room. So, DV is a must!!!

When I first got the 800, DV was just taking off. The only option was the oppo. DV didn't seem necessary at that point. Now DV is rampant and the 700 is a must! I'm sort of kicking myself though bc as a consumer I don't want to be limited when I purchase something. Oh well. At least the 700 is afffordable!!

I got my X700 for $129.99 (let's call it $130 ) from Amazon 3rd party seller. They called it "Manufacturer Refurbished" - it's not, it's a return from an electronics store like Best Buy, came in a well packaged brown box with all accessories and took the DV firmware which would have already been installed if it was "Manufacturer Refurbished", player was 'like new', no scratches ir blemishes.

It came with a 30 day money back guarantee and 90 day warranty. I've always had good luck with these open box returns called "refurbished", alot of folks use the 30 day return for a free test drive with little intention of keeping. But with a limited return/warranty I've been giving it a workout, using it almost daily with UHD & BD and it's worked flawlessly. I haven't tried DVD yet, I think I have a few of those still around somewhere.
My Sony 850E 65"TV has only the non-extreme X1 processor so no DV for it. But the HDR to me seems more colorful and bright compared to my LG 870.

I'm wondering if the X700 does auto detection for HDR, DV, and SDR sources or does it convert to what you set it to?

How is this with HDR to SDR conversion? I only have a 1080p tv but want to play 4k discs to get the atmos track. Is it better than the X800? I read that the X800 wasn't that good with the conversion.

Mine has autodetected so far. I haven't put a lot through it, but since it's capable either way, it picks up on it, and goes with it.

Any chance for a pic/screenshot? Couldn’t see it in mine.
