Glad I snagged mine earlier, really impressed with this player - never a glitch on any disc, UHD/HDR looks amazing on my HDR only Sony 850E, and does a terrific job upscaling BD & DVD. |

I purchased one two days ago. It was $178. I had no clue that was a lower price than usual. I like Sony players, because price to performance has been great based on my past purchases of BR players. ![]() |

Jumped the gun and got the Sony UBP-X700. I say jumped the gun ‘cos I haven’t got a 4K TV yet.
Now, I thought I would benefit from having HEVC coding outputting at 1080p/24. I popped in Westworld UHD and Westworld BD to do some comparisons. While I was happy to hear the Dolby True HD core sounding way better on the Westworld UHD vs. the DTS-HD MA on the BD and a tiny bit of banding in the opening on the BD was not present on the UHD (all good so far). But then, I noticed the PQ with regards to contrast/brightness on the UHD, in darker sequences, really suffers (with the HDR-SDR conversion). It almost looks like the pic on the UHD is suffering from crush. I turned the “converter” right down to 1, but also had to use “Brighter room” option to get something that was close to resembling the BD’s brightness/contrast on the Blu-Ray. At present, I am a little disappointed. Has anyone else found the same issues (in the same boat 1080p TV + UHD player) and apart from having to fiddle with the contrast/brightness on the player itself, is there anything I can do? Edit: Perhaps it is just the way the HEVC was coded vs. the AVC. Either way, the Westworld UHD appears to suffers from a lack of contrast in darker sequences. I have the UBP-X800. Do I have to upgrade to the UBP-X700 to get Dolby Vision? I'm having a tough time locating information. I was waiting and waiting for my TV to update to DV and today I stumbled upon it watching Netflix. Put some movies in the player and it didn't work so went searching online and found this.
My tv is Sony A1E if that matters. |

Bob Pariseau at AVSForum comment on the OPPO 203 implementation of DV for Sony DV TV's.
Quote:
With the recient DV firmware the Sony x700 plays DV onto LG OLED's. To make that happen Sony x700 likely added some DV Handshake to the OLEDs. Since the LG OLEDs does the major DV processing. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 07-04-2018 at 03:56 PM. |

On power up the Sony x700 sent a dark black x700 menu/setup screen to my LG G6 OLED. Behind the black screen are the Sony X700 App Icons.
How do you fix this? It would help to be able to at least get to the setup settings. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 07-05-2018 at 05:26 PM. Reason: Finishing |

Get a solid Dolby Vision HDR 4k TV, it's the only way to view UHD Blu-ray properly. Why be disappointed in something like SDR conversion that is meant as a temporary fix? |

So, just popped in Escape Plan 4k, and in standard HDR mode, as in DV off. Pressed display, it said ONLY standard HDR-mode.
Went to settings, enabled DV, pressed display on remote, and NOW it said DV. I conclude by this, that the display-button on the remote, does NOT reveal the truth about a disc, if it is DV or not, sadly |

For playing DV Disc... X700 HDR setting on auto. X700 setting... set DV on! For your Escape plan 4k movie was your HDR setting set to auto? |

![]() And a DV encoded disc will show this: ![]() That it doesn't tell you whether or not a disc is DV encoded when DV mode is disengaged, I honestly don't care. |
