Yes, until Sony has a working auto setting that only processes real DV when present on a UHD Blu-ray disc. Regular Blu's do not have HDR. |

Having to manually turn off Dolby Vision to play a non Dolby Vision title is an amazingly idiotic design decision. And people still buy these things?
Sony must have lost too many engineers to Apple. Apple fixed that issue within mere days after the first Dolby Vision update was released for the Apple TV 4K. Mark |

I got a UBPX700 and an 55X900F over the weekend. Set it up, all (mostly) good. I have two issues that maybe someone can help with?
1) Played Justice League 4K disc with DV. Skipped to the first fight the group has with Steppenwolf. Watched for about 10 minutes, then the disc froze. Had to unplug the player to get it going again. I know it's not the disc becasue i've played it before elsewhere. 2) I can't get Dolby Vision on the Apple TV to work. When I turn it on, I get a black screen with the DV logo in the corner, then cutting in and out of a black screen and NO SIGNAL. I need to unplug the Apple TV to reset it. A similar issues happens when I try to turn on 4:2:2, excpet in that case when the screen does pop up inbetween NO SIGNAL screens, there is a white static that flickers on the screen. Both devices are on HDMI 2 and 3, Enhanced Mode is turned on, and both are running through a singal (same brand, same size) HDMI cable. Any thoughts? |

Are you running the signals through a receiver by any chance? If so, what make and model? Some HDMI cables are finicky too. They may not have the bandwidth required. I've had good luck with Premium Certified Monoprice HDMI cables... so far. As to the disc. Try cleaning the surface with a microcloth. Straight lines - hub out, no circles. If it's still a no-go, then exchange the disc. |

Blue Jeans Cables has a very good passive Belden Certified HDMI cable that may work. That's what I would use if I was going with longer lengths and wanted to see if a passive cable worked. Though, I'd probably only use that kind of length or another alternative if I was using a projector. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 07-23-2018 at 07:30 PM. |

This upgrade is from a 47" Edge-Lit 1080p going on 10 years old, so to say I'd be devestated without DV would be an overstatement. ![]() |

I guess I would want the best, so I would find a way to do a shorter HDMI run from all 4k source devices to the display. You also need good audio to go with your new TV. Internal speakers or a soundbar are a poor alternative. IMHO FYI. |

So far, Blockers BD has not froze. While no help, I am hoping these are just some initial 'hiccups' for us! (and letting you know you are not alone). Also for your benefit, please see my posts and responses earlier about turning on and off DV for each disc. ![]() |

I have a 2.1 soundbar/woofer setup. It's decent. One of my kids bedrooms is in the next room over, so loud volumes isn't even a thing that exists for my movie-watching time. One day...

The Apple TV 4K was released on September 22, 2017 with Dolby Vision support out-of-the-box. No update was needed to enable Dolby Vision. 73 days. Far from "mere days." |

If you want a good construction project that will enhance your house (unless you have a basement that can be at least partially turned into a proper A/V room): go to the flanking walls in the bedroom and do a little sound dampening with Roxul Safe & Sound batting and 3/4" drywall and seal any breaches in the plates, sills, and studs via wiring inside the wall before that step. |

Ok here’s another, more pressing issue. I just tested both DV and non DV 4K discs. All played beautifully. But i’ve tried 3 different BD discs, and when I put the disc in and it starts to load, the TV immediately cuts to NO SIGNAL. When I press STOP, the signal comes back and the BD player goes back to the menu.
Any thoughts? |

Ok. Did some troubleshooting.
The cable that was giving me working 4K DV on the UPB-X700 but not Blu-Ray 1080p, gave me full DV on the Apple TV. The cable on the Apple TV that gave me HDR but not DV gave me nothing on the UBP-X700, and gave me picture but no sound on the cable box and Nintendo Switch. The 3rd cable I have, which is going into a non enhanced HDMI 4 on the TV, worked perfectly to play 1080p BluRays. The thing is, this is only testing the cables. I can’t test the inputs right now because the TV is mounted on the wall and I can’t get it down right now. Really hoping it’s a HDMI cable issue and not the input on the TV. EDIT: This still doesn’t explain the UBP-X700 not playing 1080p BD discs through the good HDMI cable that give me DV on the Apple TV. FINAL EDIT: The 1080p issue was having 4K Upscaling set to Auto1. I changed it to Auto2 and all is working fine now. At the end of the day, I have 1 bad HDMI cable. I can resolve that by moving the Apple TV locally behind the TV. Then I read about having to toggle DV on and off, which seems clunky. Some of my discs support DV, but I don't have that list memorized... Then I read that enabling DV disables 3D playback. Are you kidding me? Saving my money and sticking with the X800. |

True, regular BDs don't have HDR, but Sony claims the X700 does SDR>HDR "conversion", and I can see it. I watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens BD last night, I hadn't watched it since I watched it on my cheapo non-HDR 50" Hisense 4k TV, which got retired to the bedroom when I got my 65" Sony 850E last spring. Much nicer picture, the X700 upscales very well and I could see HDR highlights. My 850E also upscales to 4k very well, but I prefer the X700 to upscale and add a bit of faux HDR to SDR discs. I have all my settings set to Auto, including Dolby Vision, but the player knows my 850E doesn't have DV, so the Info display is always 2160/HDR, even on UHDs with both DV & HDR, and on standard BDs. The X700 is a very good match for non-DV TVs, to my eyes the UHD HDR look better with the X700 than my LG 870. But for me the X700 SDR>HDR "conversion" doesn't work well for DVDs. I've only watched a few but in bright scenes it looks distorted, so I prefer my LG 870 for DVDs, it upscales them nicely and leaves the dynamic range alone. |
