Bought myself an x700 on Thursday (22 November) and have just returned it today (25 November). First disc I tried in it was B2049 standard BR and it suffered from a horrendous amount of audio dropouts, some lasting a second, some longer. I then tried Ready Player One UHD and it locked up at around the 1hr30 mark. The next day I ran RPO again and the same thing happened.
I'd read about some people mentioning this issue but there were equal amounts of people who seemed to say they had no problems at all so I took a chance. Guess I'll be more careful next time. I took it back and exchanged it for the LGUBK90, fingers crossed I have more luck with that. So far so good though, played RPO and it got all the way through without locking up, and is quiet as a mouse. Plus the added advantage of not having to switch DV on or off manually. All told I am a little sad that I had to get rid of the Sony, the image I got from it was outstanding but the freezing thing was just unacceptable to me. |

WoW that’s too bad to hear. I got my X700 mid September and (knock on wood) I haven’t had one single issue. No freezing, no skipping, no issues with load times at all. I don’t have it hooked up to the internet. I use the tv’s own apps for streaming.

Yeah, it sucks tbh. Like I said I really liked the image it gave me. Mine was only connected to the internet (wired) to do the DV firmware update and then unplugged. I'd read about the internet connection being a possible source of problems so I didn't want to take a chance, but it still froze. I'm guessing that these units are just hit and miss quality wise, I must've just gotten unlucky. My previous player was a Sony BDP-S5100 and that thing never failed me at all, and that had plenty of use. Guess it doesn't pay to be loyal to a particular brand these days.

I forgot exactly what the HDTVTest guy said on youtube, but he said the xbox doesn’t output the correct colors. Said the xbox doesn’t do 4:4:4 chroma subsampling even went set to 4:4:2. Stick with standalone player for best results imo.

Got one of these this past weekend. Was using an x800 previously. I think this player is worth the money $150. Dolby Vision is cool, and I like the additional settings options. The quality of the video looks better than the previous model. I noticed some weird playback quirks using the x800 that were not replicated on this player. I was also impressed with its streaming capabilities. I actually had a better experience streaming 4K video through Netflix and Vudu on this than on anything else I've tried (including my smart TV, my PS4 Pro, the x800, and my Xbox One S).

I have both for the same reason I have an Apple TV instead of using the streaming apps on the X700 or Xbox. The Xbox’s main thing is games so the disc playback isn’t as polished as the X700 whose main focus is just that and it’s streaming apps are not as polished as the Apple TV 4K. The Xbox is a great option for an all in one if you don’t have the money for both, really want a gaming machine that can also play 4K discs and do 4K streaming. |

The X700 or most other stand alone disc players will be a better experience for disc playback but streaming on them is no better than the xbox and you don't get games. Streaming on Apple TV 4K is the best streaming device I have ever had but that is all it does. Sure you can play games but I wouldn't categorize it as a gaming console with the Xbox. If you have an Xbox One do you use it for blu-rays? If you do then you will know what to expect with 4K discs on the X. I also have a PS4 Pro and I never even thought about using anything else on it other than gaming. Their blu-ray playback wasn't even as good as I remember it being on the PS3 and they chose not to put an UHD drive in the Pro not to mention their streaming is far behind everyone else. But those are just additional bonus convenient features, not exactly their main selling points. I say if your main concern is mostly movies go for an X700 or other stand alone if your happy with your Xbox One for the little games you do play. If you want the upgraded game experience plus get a decent UHD disc player and decent streaming go for the X. I honestly don't think you would be disappointed with the X as a UHD player. I have used it as such when my players have crapped out on me and didn't think any poorly of it, just less convenient but if you used your One for blu-rays then I am sure you know exactly what I mean. |

Long time user of the site and pretty tech savvy here but can't figure something out for the life of me.
Just got my X700 and hooked it up to HDMI2 on my Yamaha Aventage 870 which is running into my HDMI 3/ARC on my Sony OLED A1E. My Xbox One X is running into HDMI1 on the Yamaha HDMI3/ARC. Now the issue is I'm not seeing a Dolby Vision tag come up when I play a disc that supports it thru my X700. It's definitely active thru HDR as my visually you can tell and thru the Sony A1E menu the HDR is active in the picture settings during playback. I have Dolby Vision enabled in the menu, I have no issues running Dolby Vision thru Netflix thru my TV (and the popup badge showing). My question is does the DV badge just not pop up on playback via discs on this player? Should I assume it is DV and not HDR10? The entire purpose of my getting this player was obviously for slightly better color reproduction vs playing 4K discs on the Xbox 1 X but also to have DV support. Help! Thanks! |

I got my X700 a couple weeks ago and I haven't had any issues with it yet (fingers crossed) and I love the image it delivers. I had a Samsung M8500 and I found the picture to be less smooth (less judder). The only thing that is slightly annoying is that my multi-region player is also a Sony so the remote for the UHD player activates both the UHD player and my blu-ray player (the remotes are exactly the same). I'll press the button to open the tray and both players' trays open at the same time.
Is there any way to fix this? It's a minor annoyance and not a huge deal but if there was some sort of (easy) workaround that would fix it, that would be amazing lol. ~Matt |

until I realized that I hadn't updated the firmware that enabled DV processing thru the receiver!!! I was so used to running DV thru Netflix straight thru the Sony A1E that I forgot I needed to update the receiver lol (and the Xbox 1 X doesn't do DV processing with discs so I never thought about doing it). Thanks for the feedback again as I may still have tried other things instead of this obvious one! |
