Good point: The Network Connection...it can work for some and not for others.
Or it can work for a while and then a glitch appears.
Nobody's Network is the same. Some are more reliable, others less.

When having an issue with this player, that's a good place to try different selections.

I feel as if I dodged a bullet on this player. Mine has been a reliable work horse since early summer. I haven’t encountered disc issues (including 100 size). Streaming has been so horrible I stopped trying a couple of days after purchase. I’ve had to pull the power only once early due to the streaming issues. It’s not solidly built and very vanilla but it plays all my discs quietly up to this point.

I’m not negating those that have had issues.

Youtube and Netflix work excellent. Mind you that I have it cabled, since my old router couldn’t reach that far with the Wi-Fi.
Now that I have a new router I am going to see how it goes with wireless streaming.

I'm planning on getting this to take advantage of the Dolby Atmos and DTS-X tracks on 4K disks. I don't have a 4K projector yet, but will in time.

Setup
Sony UBP-X700 > Yamaha RX-3060 > BenQ 1085ST
with a 7.2.4 surround sound setup.

This will be used with a 1080P projector. My BenQ projector does great with 1080P, but how will the Sony UBP-X700 do with outputting 1080P (I guess down grading) the video?

Are there other users on here with this 4K player using it with a 1080P projector and how is the picture quality?
Anything I need to be concerned with?
HDCP 2.2 should be fine as I am not outputting a 4K picture.

A front projector (2K and 4K) doesn't support Dolby Vision; better get the Sony X800 in your case.
Or even better, a Panasonic 820 for three times the price of the Sony X800.

IMO

X800's SDR conversion is pretty poor. If using with a projektor I wouldn't consider anything else than a Panasonic player.

Is the Sony X800 worth the extra money than the X700 even through I don’t have a Dolby Vision HDR tv?

The UBP-X700 has no option for Original Resolution in the Screen Settings while the UBP-X800 has that option. Is the UBP-X700 good at upscaling Blu-rays to 4k?

It’s not bad at all... unless you use X1 Xtreme/Ultimatr on your TV or HCX on a Panasonic Tv

The original resolution is best used for external video processors or for high-end 4k tvs. The 4k upscaling is better than most budget 4k UHD blu-ray players and entry level 4k tvs. Most people that have really good 4k tvs turn off the 4k upscaling in the X700 video settings and let their tvs to upscale blu-rays to 4k, but the downside of it is that dvds get upscaled from 480p to 1080p in the player and the tv upscales the 1080p signal to 4k.

Also a downside with most 4k UHD players is that they can't stream in 4k/24p. They only stream in 4k/60p.

I have an Epson EH-TW9200 (not sure which one that is in the US)
Image quality from the UHD content is alright. The X700 has HDR —> SDR in 5 flavours.
I find myself adjusting them from time to time. It depends which movie I am playing.
It isn’t pretty with dark scenes though.

Sinds I am an audiophile I don’t care much about the image quality. I want volume and clarity and most UHDs deliver.

So I understand from reading a few posts here, I should allow my Sony x900f to handle my upscaling needs and not my player? Also, do I have to manually turn on DV for supporting titles then turn off for unsupported each time (this is what I've been doing and it's tedious)?

Yes... the 900F upscaler is far better than the X700.

AFAIK you don’t need to turn on/off the DV at all.

I hope it continues to have a wide range of disc support like the x800, but without the freezing issues I see so many report in the x800 thread. This might end up being my first UHD player, if it really supports Dolby Vision.

I see in the specs it supports 3D which is great to see. It seems to support SACD also. Nice.

I don't want the green light on when I'm watching a film. I'd like to have the option to dim it, or better to not have it display at all. My smart TV can quickly tell me if there's no signal from it's HDMI port.

I guess I'll be looking into LightDims stickers at Amazon...

I don't mind the little green light during the Holidays. It brings the good spirit.

I just bought this thinking it was a good player, should I return it?

I see so many negative comments about the player...

It's the best player on the market for that price. I bought an extended warranty from Square Trade for $8 too. So buying this player was a no brainer for me.
