AFAIK you don’t need to turn on/off the DV at all.
Sony's upscaling is perfectly cromulent in their players, but people need to change the Auto video setting to Direct to defeat the baked in noise reduction of the former.

Picked one of these up yesterday for $150 from Best Buy. My TV supports Dolby Vision so I needed a player that could do it too, and I'm glad the X700 can do it at a reasonable price point. I wish I had done some research when I first got into 4k blu ray collecting because now I have an LG UP875 that's just going to collect dust until/unless I get another 4k TV sometime down the line.

I will say that the UP875 feels way more premium than this thing despite being like half the price when I bought it. And that's saying something, because the UP875 is hardly some kind of luxury piece of tech.

looks like sony are never going to add auto DV on and off as the website page for X700 has got a table stating the DV modes and it shows dv for hdr10 and sdr content.

I'm having an issue trying to play discs with DV. I hooked this player up to an LG OLED65E8 and turned on DV in the player's settings. When I start up a disc I get a Dolby Vision logo in the top right corner of the screen, but I end up with sound and no picture. I can't find any setting that will give me a picture. I have no issue with HDR10 when DV is turned off but when it's turned on I get no picture on any disc.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Are you running HDMI through a receiver or pre-amp?

One hdmi out is for audio only., The other has audio and video. Check that first. Good Luck.

The HDMI for video/audio is going straight into the TV. The audio only is going into the receiver.

I’m tempted to get this ever since I mistakenly saw it for $99 last week or so. With my combination of XBox One X and TCL p605, I just haven’t seen any justification for UHD, seeing as my regular blu-rays look excellent already. I want to be wowed by the picture, but it isn’t happening, so I’m wondering if this player will make the difference more apparent or not. I did read that it loads quicker than an X1X, which is great, but not worth it alone.

Some Best Buys have dark media areas where you can see what UHD looks like. You can gage it there. I bought the X-700 when it was $149. It may still be.

Does anyone know if this player has a ‘player-led’ vs ‘tv-led’ setting for DV output. If so, should it be ‘tv-led’ when plugged into a LG OLED?

No settings like that, I even searched the Manual.

Did you ever resolve your issue? If you haven't I would check with google and do a search with the LG you have and see if others have had an issue. Good Luck

Unfortunately I just can't figure it out. I tried Google to no avail. I was afraid that my TV might be the culprit, But I downloaded the Dolby Vision trailer which played fine from a flash drive. The same flash drive hooked up to the Sony also gave me no picture. I emailed Sony support, so hopefully they know what's up.

You have to turn off the DV on your player. I think it’s under the screen settings. Only turn it on when your watching DV content. Annoying I know but that’s what it is.

Yeah it’s called Dolby Vision output. Just double checked. Turn it off for everything but DV.

I have this issue where I go turn on the player and it won't turn on or the door won't open. This has done this more than a few times. I have to unplug the power cord just to repower the player and lose all my information on the home screen. Plus it takes forever to reconnect to the internet to set up my password and such. This is really annoying..

Hey Geoff, I got my new x700 connected today but haven't gotten a chance to try anything yet. Tomorrow I'll be testing the new receiver and x700 and going through setup menus.

I trust your settings and I know you are well-informed about the specific settings and quirks of this player, so would you mind sharing your recommended settings? I'll be using my other 3D blu-ray player for 3D and 2D blu-rays so I'll be using the x700 mostly just for 4k discs.

Also a downside with most 4k UHD players is that they can't stream in 4k/24p. They only stream in 4k/60p.
So then how do you turn off 4k upscaling in the x700? The other poster wasn't able to find any setting in the player that seemed to allow disabling upscaling.

Under the 4K Upscale Setting:
Off - No upscaling, your TV will do it
Auto 1 - If Sony TV the TV will upscale, non Sony TV the player will upscale
Auto 2 - The player upscales
