Has anyone else had this issue?
I first noticed this issue when I tried to watch Mission Imposible: Fallout on Vudu UHD, but now it happens with other movies too. After a few minutes, it starts to buffer, then I am getting a “your broadband does not support UHD playback.” However, when I conduct a “speed test”, I have FULL speed the entire test without fluctuations. When I stream the 4K Amazon Fire stick, I don’t have this issue. I am using a brand new Sony x700 (updated firmware) Hard wired (not WiFi) High speed full capacity HDMI cable from player to reciever Brand new Denon receiver with HDMI 2.0 (FULL 4K capabilities) Brand new Optoma UHD51a (with Full 4K capabilities) Fiber optic high speed HDMI cable from the receiver to the projector (no issues displaying FULL 4K) So the issue is not any of the equipment, and according to my internet provider (and the VuDu speed test) there are no apparent issues with the internet speed. So has anyone else had this issue and solved it? 2nd issue: Streaming displays 4K 60hz 4K DiSC playback displays 4K 24hz How do I ensure 60hz playback during discs? |

Picked this unit up from Best Buy for $120 (Price matched with Amazon & used RZ certificate) a few days ago to replace my x800. Definitely lighter than my x800 & my Oppo of course.

I saw this posted a while ago in the x800 thread but I'm confused. Can anybody confirm if this is correct or incorrect?:
"If it's on 4:2:2 then you aren't getting 10 bit color. HDMI doesn't support 10 bit at 4:2:2." I'm having issues with Dolby Vision and it was suggested to switch from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2. According to this comment, if I do that, I won't be getting 10-bit color. Does that mean I don't get the wide color gamut if I send 4:2:2? That is of course not desirable. |

Does anyone have audio sync problems with the Netflix app? It's only when I choose the 5.1 channel track that I get lip sync problems, the 2 channel track works just fine. I use HDMI audio out.
Sorry if this has been brought up before, tried searching the thread. |

Well I popped Grease in tonight to try some Dolby Vision settings and the player sounded like it was about to spin apart it was spinning so loudly. First time I heard this since I got the player for Christmas. If I skip ahead a chapter the sounds cuts in half and if I skip another chapter, it's silent. If I go back a chapter, it's just as loud again. Forward again and it's quiet. If I skip to the last couple chapters, the noise kicks right back in again.
So I guess I'm returning this player to Best Buy while I still have a couple days left to do it. So much for a Sony player. So far it locked up on me the first week while I was pausing and going back and forth with a disc testing settings, and tonight this happened. |

So how common is this noise issue with spinning some discs? I don't want to have to worry about random discs being unplayable due to noise issues. Why does it only make that loud spinning sound in the first 2 and last 2 chapters? I have to make a decision by this evening if I will be keeping this player or returning it. I sit only about 8-10 feet away from the player. I can't ignore it. It sounded like it was going to take off it was so loud. All other discs have been quiet but I can't worry about random discs acting up in this player.

About the loud spinning noise in Grease, I called Sony tech and they had me reset the player to default settings, unplug the player, and replay the disc again. Now, it still spins loud in the first 2 chapters and the last 3 chapters, but it's not nearly as loud as before. Still noticeably louder than other discs though. After chapter 2 it's silent until the last 3 chapters when the spinning gets louder again. The menu also spins loud.
This is the only Paramount UHD I own currently. All other discs and studios play silently. Not sure if I should keep the player or not. I guess all players have issues with certain discs. The disc looks flawless physically - no dust, scratches, or discoloration. Last edited by mar3o; 01-11-2019 at 06:05 PM. |

I spent the last hour on the phone with Sony over the loud spinning with Grease and spoke with their highest technical department. She was unfamiliar with any compatibility issues with that particular title and this player. I did remember that Grease had an exchange program, so I had the original disc still tucked away. So I took that out and played it, and it had the same exact issue at the first 2 chapters and the last 3. So something about this title and this player in particular for me. I love the player otherwise, but this makes me wonder if this player doesn't like Paramount discs, or just this title, or if I can expect this on random discs. This is the only Paramount title I own so I can't try any other Paramount discs. The fact that Grease spins quieter after the factory reset, yet still spins louder in the first and last chapters, makes me think maybe there is something going on with this particular unit. Why else would the loudness of the spinning change after resetting it? Last edited by mar3o; 01-11-2019 at 06:45 PM. |

Err...so now I'm really stumped.
I just threw in Alien Covenant to see how loud that spun, and it sounded exactly like Grease since the factory reset - getting close to the player you can hear the disc spinning faster and louder in the first couple chapters, then running silent through the rest of the film, until the last couple chapters, where it spins faster and louder again. Tried E.T. and The Dark Crystal and the same thing - spins faster/louder in the first couple chapters than goes silent. Westworld TV series doesn't - it spins silent right from the beginning. I watched Alien Covenent last weekend and certainly didn't hear the kind of noise in the beginning as I did with Grease last night, so it may spin louder/faster on some discs in the beginning/end, but it's not noticeable from across the room. With Grease it was insanely loud. Now it's much quieter after the factory reset. So what does all this mean? Is it normal for this player to spin faster/louder on some discs at the beginning and end of the disc, yet spin silent in the middle? Last edited by mar3o; 01-11-2019 at 07:20 PM. |

Mine had been silent as well, all throughout my owning it. But, up until the day before yesterday, I noticed it being a bit louder than usual on Waterworld. Can it be something to do with the firmware? Or, could it be some minor deformity on certain discs, since they're produced in mass?

My deck is fine, but my brother-in-law's initial unit would spin loudly upon bootup and menus. When any movie was played, it was silent until what I assume is a layer change. Then it was audibly noisy again.
His replacement is like mine, rock solid. |
