This is why I did not buy a Philips or some other models - they allowed no way to force HDR10. If Dolby Vision is found on the disc, it forces it and you can't override this setting. That's a major deal-breaker. Settings should be: - Auto switch to Dolby Vision if Dolby Vision is found on disc - Disable Dolby Vision, even if found on disc |

I watched Blade Runner and Alien when I first got this player. Both looked awesome. I watched The Last Jedi and it didn't look as great. Went in and turned on Dolby Vision and The Last Jedi looked as good as Blade Runner and Alien the night before.
Would Blade Runner and Alien benefit from having Dolby Vision turned on? I only see HDR10 mentioned on those discs. Would they look worse unless I turned Dolby Vision back off? Should I just turn on Dolby Vision and leave it? Why would I want to turn it off? If I play a disc without Dolby Vision, would it just default to HDR10? Is Dolby Vision superior to HDR10? Sorry if this has all been discussed already, this is a huge thread. |

What I'm wondering does the player actually send the correct signal based on the disc even tho DV is turned on?
Of course if the tv goes into DV mode then the picture will look different, altho mine does not I don't really notice much diff between DV discs and HDR10 discs |

My concern is that even though I'v done the DV update and have the option to turn DV on, befause the player has been modified to play all regions of Blu-rays that mod means it can't 'see' the DV layer... Thanks for any help. |

I haven’t had that player anymore since November last year. Perhaps the firmware already fixed the way the player works? IIRC it used to say DV on TV regardless what I put in when DV is turned on.

**If I play an HDR10 disc with DV turned on it does not say Dolby Vision** My tv goes into DV mode whenever it's turned on at player but unless the player says Dolby Vision in the display screen I don't think the player is sending a DV signal. If you set your x700 to screen settings > Dolby Vision > On, then it will play as if you are watching a DV disc. My OLED flashes the DV icon (top right), and if I hit info during the movie it will say DV. This applies to UHD and BD, and I would assume DVD. I played a BD disc and forgot to turn off DV and the icon appeared. Oops.
If you set your screen settings > DV > OFF, then it will only play HDR. There is not an auto-detect feature for DV. (I hope that will change at some point so none of this will matter.) |

Maybe that is the first step of Sony fixing it, an auto-detect feature only if you have a sony to sony set-up. I don't know, just speculating since I have an LG (OLED), and not a sony.
