Panasonic will have two new UHD/HDR BD payers debut in July, but only the higher-end UB820 will support DV and it's planned to be DV ready out of the box. In fact, the UB820 will be the 1st true "universal" UHD BD player supporting HDR10, HDR10+ and DV.

My company is one of the very few Panasonic dealers and I'll be bring in the 1st allotment.
Hi Robert,

I thought I've read that the Dolby Vision feature would be available through a firmware update sometimes in the Summer of 2018. That, for the new Sony X700 player.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300579505.html

http://www.hughsnews.ca/sony-rolls-o...ceiver-0056580

...And from several other sources too, so I was correct. Anyway I went back to few of my previous posts and corrected the date of that Dolby Vision firmware update, after reading your post above. I didn't have to as I was correct @ the time.

I sure was a little confused for a brief moment, enough to make corrections that were unnecessary. No big deal as now the news are even better for Spring Dolby Vision glory.

We live in a fast world, where news fly all around, and the news set trends, and trends are what makes people buy. This is a consumption world, this is a leading money business, this is furious race to get money quickly and fix the rest over time. When we spend our money that fast there are no issues on the first day when the product is still in its box.
Then we have the chance to experience and discover for ourselves the quickness of this world we live in. Time is money, there is no time limit to fix the issues as they appear, and we learn, we are patient, we are counting on support, and this is the world we live in, very fast and requiring patience over time to fix our quick spending flee.

It's like living already in an artificial virtual world, where money is faster than hardware and software updates.

I confess; I am less human today than I was yesterday. The rapidity of global news exposure for power, control, money, advertising, promoting, hacking, bullying, convincing, without mercy, without human value, without merit, ...all in the name of fast money, has tinted my soul and my heart without a cure.

It's no one's fault but us all. We created a machine that is eating us from the inside out.

I am weak to have let myself influenced by this material money world.
I became part of that monster machine.

Anyway, just a thought about Ex_machina.

It was, as first announced not that long ago, but Robert now has new news...April 2018 for Dolby Vision with the Sony X700 4K UHD/HDR SACD Blu-ray player and streamer.

I was told at CES by a reliable Sony exec that the expected Dolby Vision upgrade would be April. With the unexpected delays on DV upgrades I would guess Sony corporate is being cautious in giving out DV upgrade dates.

I would wait too; Dolby Vision is for later, even if the player is available now.
Everyone has a 4K player today already, well, most of the people's minority anyway.
The majority have a computer, and a DVD player/streamer.

It is a great looking device though.

I still wonder why it launches with Amazon HDR and they never added it to the X800...

Do you have to set the HDMI audio output?

Can't they just update the X800 with Dolby Vision? I mean the player just looks so much nicer..and I already own it. I'm curious to see what all the DV fuss is about..

Agreed, but I'm sure Sony would rather just sell us a new player instead.

I'm not sure why I care about DV or Sony at all when they clearly don't care.

All I can guess is maybe the MediaTek chip in the X800 can't do DV, or they dont wanna pay the fees on it.

That ^

Say you buy a Sony X800 when it was first released, $300
Then you do the same with the Sony X700, $250 ... for Dolby Vision.
Total: $550

Other people buy only one player, an Oppo 203 ... for Dolby Vision.
Total: $550

So it's almost like I'm ahead of the game since I only paid $150 for my X800..

Excellent math, LOTR, excellent!!!

As someone said in one of these threads a year ago, buy once and cry once for the best player available, and if it's an Oppo it could last 5 to 10 years or more. (Which could be 2 or 3 cycles in consumer electronics lifetimes.)

Yeah I guess. But having already bought the OPPO then I'm out of pocket if I have to buy the X700 to get DV discs to work on mah Soh-nee Tee-vee.

...which of course won't be until the "summer" anyway because that's when the DV update for the X700 is destined to drop, though why they have to wait that long given that the player was apparently running DV off of a disc to a ZD9 at CES is anyone's guess. Sure, I said it myself that it was likely some sort of "special sauce" version of the player (they often are at such trade expos) but even so, given this balls-up with the new profile it'd sure be neat of Sony to speed up the X700's update. But maybe the wait isn't a technical issue but more of a paperwork one, they gotta get in line to get it officially certified by Dolby jus' like eveybody else.

So, if you don't have interest in the player, why are you posting here again? I own a 203 too, I really don't need to hear about it.

In case some of you need a little history lesson, Oppo released the 103, and a year later they released the 103D. Its not like they haven't released a yearly model.

And dont be surprised if you see another iteration of the 203 out sooner than later with the way the format keeps changing. They use a mediatek chip, just like Sony.
