Edit: they do say the color gamet requires a higher cable than 1.4. HDMI 1.4 limited 4K Ultra HD content to 8-bit color, though it is capable of 10- or 12-bit. I'm happy with a 1.4 hdmi cable.
I’m in the settings now and output video resolution is set to auto - but I can change that to 4K? Should I? Underneath it says 24p output (I’m assuming my HDMI cable is not 2.0? Then there’s 4K upscale settings - auto 1 and auto 2 or off? Which one is best? Thank you for your help with this! I’m new to 4K!

I would keep all settings auto. That way it will detect the settings from the tv.
Edit: All auto, 4k uscaling is set to Auto1 for me.

Will do. I guess I’ll probably get a 2.0 cable on Tuesday as well. Thanks!

I had some time tonight and put a standard Blu ray in and it looks like I’m getting 4K/60p SDR during playback - so I guess my HDMI is good after all. I’m guessing a 4K disk will read 4K/60p HDR, correct? Which is what it should be if I’m not mistaken.

Nope, regular 4K HDR movie will be 24 fps. Only Billy Lynn Halftime Walk and Gemini Man are 60 fps.

Is your player outputting HDR to SDR conversion, could be why output is 60p?

Well I was playing a standard Blu Ray so that’s not HDR, right? But yes it said the output was 60p. I’ll have a 4K disc tomorrow to try out. I’m thinking I need to fix the settings but I’m somewhat lost.

For the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format to be successful for mainstream consumers, by the end of 2020 there needs to be some 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players with a list price of $99.99 (Walmart already has some standard 1080P Sony Blu-ray players and other brands for around $49.99. The Blu-ray format is up against the DVD players that cost around $25. Since Blu-ray is better quality then DVD, the Blu-ray players and discs will always be more expensive when compared to the DVD format). Hopefully Sony and other companies will release a native 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player this year with a $99.99 list price that will be on the shelf of stores like Walmart, Target, etc. In addition a high-end Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player for around $1,000 would be ideal for videophiles and audiophiles that want the best when shopping at places like Best Buy, etc.

Almost a year ago since the last update. Could be a good thing, or is their focus set in other players right now?

I purchased a Sony UBP-X700 at Walmart today when I went to buy some food supplies.

This is my first 4K UHD Player.

I'm going to double-post a question from another thread, so forgive me...

I've been meaning to make the jump for a long while. I have had a LG brand 4K television (Model # 49UF6700-UC) for years, but it's an older one that doesn't have HDR (High Dynamic Range), and I have been using a standard Blu-ray player with it (which looks great, so I was not in a hurry to upgrade).

Question...

Right now, my setup plays 4K UHD discs, because I just tested one, but a notification shows up telling me that I need a television with HDR in order to get the full effect of the new player. With my older 4K television, the HDR converts to SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) for the colors.

I'm assuming that I'm getting the 4K UHD level of detail, but just with SDR instead of HDR. Is that correct?
(I could probably ascertain by putting the standard Blu-ray counterpart in and comparing, but I don't trust my eyes.)

I'll buy a newer 4K television with HDR for the color range when all of this coronavirus stuff dies down a bit.

I just turned on the HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color option on my LG television picture settings, so that should help for now.

I did that for awhile with the Samsung player and an older Sony 4k tv, you get a little extra detail but the HDR and color is obviously the bigger improvement, so yes 4K SDR

You get some funky conversion issues like crushed blacks with some of the UHD's, Van Helsing was a bad one that I remember but others too.

I have this player and the first 20 4K movies I watched absolutely no problem. Now it freezes up on almost every single movie I watch.. It completely freeze to the point I have to unplug the power in the back to restart. Really brutal,
you think I should just go get another one at Costco?

I couldn't be any happier with mine. I've had it for almost a year now with no issues and it gets used a lot.

I'm in the market for a 4K player and this one is pretty much the only one I can see on shelves right now. But with so many reviews complaining about freezing I'm heistate. On the other hand, most of the other players online within my price-range seem to have similar issues. I don't know if I should take a chance with this one and hope it works out or give another brand a try instead.
