So I just got this player today (my first 4K player) and seems to be working great so far. I just tested the 4K disc of Gemini Man on it and it looked and sounded great. Although when I tested the 4K discs of Jaws, Mission Impossible Fallout(Paris chase/the whole 3rd act), and the beginning of Top Gun, it looked like they had a bluish tint to it (I think Top Gun was supposed to be like that) and looked a bit dark, compared to comparisons I’ve seen online. I was just wondering If they’re supposed to look like that or am I missing something here? (Btw I was watching on HDR 10 since my Samsung tv doesn’t support Dolby vision)

For those having freezing issues with this player i may have found a solution. I seem to have issues with Universal pictures titles - The Blues Brothers, Jaws, Spartacus and E.T have all froze in random places in the latter half of the film. Also Ready Player One (a warner title) froze too.
I've tried everything i can think of to combat this annoying problem - disconnecting the internet, cleaning the discs, altering picture settings, turning off the 4k upscale feature etc..None have worked. However i put Jaws on and let it play without pausing while i did some chores and it did not freeze. I tried it with Ready Player One too and that didn't freeze either. I watched Jurassic Park and didn't pause the film - i stopped the disc while got another drink or went toilet - and that didn't freeze. It seems pausing could cause a glitch in playback or something.

Just bought this player and I was curious if there is a negative to having the DV turned on and just leaving it on? Say I'm playing something like Into the Spiderverse, which doesn't have DV.... would having it turned on cause any issues with the picture? or not play it in an optimal manner?

I had it turned on when I first got my player. I don't remember if it affected playback of non-DV content. I think it did, but it got annoying seeing blu-ray movies being labeled as having DV after a while, so I switched it off.

good morning everyone, with my x-700 combined with the sony a8f the dolby vision has problems on the level of blacks, I also see ghosting, while with the simple hdr you can see perfectly! There are some parameters to configure! in reality the dolby vision is not perfect even with the apps inside the tv, Netflix and Disney +. thanks

Looks like this is the most affordable 4k player. Is it worth getting? Looking to get into the UHD BD game. Don't have the bandwidth for 4k Netflix, so I need discs.

I've had two for several years and they've been great. I have no complaints whatsoever.

Unlike its successor, this player supports 3D discs so if you're interested in those, that's something to consider as well.

I recall reading something not long after they added the Dolby Vision functionality about how leaving it leaving it on for non-Dolby Vision content could have an adverse effect on the image so I just leave it off to be safe. I don't know if it's even still an issue, however, and, as I've always done this, I never experienced any problems myself.

I simply enable Dolby Vision under screen settings just before watching a Dolby Vision film, then turn it off afterwards.

I've only had discs freeze twice (both twice while watching a DV disc). In both cases, opening the disc tray and closing it again stopped the freezing, oddly enough. I was able to continue watching the film with no problems afterwards.

I replaced my ol' BDP-S350, which stopped reading discs for some reason, for this specific model this thread's about.

Right now I have an Denon AVR-2100w to run it--that will be replaced with a newer amp in time--and I discovered an odd situation. The Sony 4K tv recognizes the UHD player is set the display at 4K, but when I put a 4K disc in the player, the player downconverts the disc to 1080p. Should I pin this as a Denon problem? I know it can't detect HDR, but the downscaling is odd, when the device is already set at 4K.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the implied answer, now I'm more motivated to save up on the new amp.

Is it just me or does this player have trouble playing regular blu rays from Lionsgate? I was watching the first 2 John Wick movies on Blu ray (since I don’t have them on 4K) and it keeps cutting out every now and then shows the “can’t read HDMI device “ or something like that, and I have to reposition the player a little bit every now and then, which does bring the picture back.

I recently bought the X700 and the first 4K I watched was Akira.

Everything was going fine until i attempted to rewind it to catch something I had missed. At that point the disc basically stopped working and I had to reboot and start over.

...a player is no good to me if I can’t use the rewind button.

Interesting video, I have a player led TV for DV and I can't tell any diff between DV and HDR10 movies really. Wonder if the TV led DV looks better than HDR10?, seems most with LG's say it looks darker than HDR10.

This is really a TV issue tho not the player

Its best to turn it ON only when playing discs with DV and turning it OFF when playing everything else as i have found that normal SDR Blurays (with DV ON) - activates HDR (which is not desirable as it messes up the brightness and contrast).

For UHDs with HDR10 (like Spiderverse) - its not an issue with DV ON - as it will playback as HDR10 if it doesn't detect the Dolby Vision flag.
