I have the same combo of player and TV - and didn't notice the ghosting before .. i think the newer firmware mentions improvement on the quality of Dolby Vision on the built-in Netflix app.

the biggest problem is the details in the blacks that are drowned and the shadows that look dirty gray. I tried halloween yesterday and the details in the doctor's beard are lost with the DV.

Got fed up with my x700 freezing or stuttering or falling out of sync half-way through on just about every UHD I play, so I ordered the Panasonic UB420. Hopefully it performs better than the x700. I can't see how it could be any worse.

Should I have my DVDs set to play back at 24 frames per second? Or just for blu-ray and 4k blu-ray content?

Was given a brand new one of these and so far, it’s been awesome paired with my Vizio Quantum P series tv. No hiccups or freezes thus far.

I've had a x700 player since I got into 4k UHD roughly three years ago, and the only disc I've had an issue with is MI: Fallout, where it consistently skips over a short section of the club scene in the first half of the film.

Good luck; I hope you have a good experience with yours.

Holy shit, the amount of auto-DNR applied by this player in the default video mode is incredibly high. If you're using this player and haven't done so, make absolutely sure to set the video mode to DIRECT from the options menu while playing a disc.

Yeah... It's horrendous, seriously a headscratcher how come this kind of setting is available on a player, let alone be the default option. I swore at first I got a defective unit until I figured out this was the case. In addition to the auto-detecting Dolby Vision, another thing that these Sony players need is to just remove all those video options and force Direct at all times. Can't see why anyone would need anything else.

I have the X-700 player, but I could not figure from Setup where to navigate to, step-by-step to get to the area to change from Default Video Mode to Direct Mode.

Would you kindly give me that guide?

Hit the options button while the disc is playing and go to video settings.

That's the one.. it won't work from setup, you have to be playing a disc. But once you change it, it'll stay set to that so you won't need to adjust it again.

I hate the remote for this player.

It’s tiny and the buttons are really hard to get right unless you’re staring straight at it while pressing them.

I like to lay back and use muscle memory.

...I can’t do that with this remote.

I wanted to watch the Arrow Region B The Thing blu-ray last night, and the bloody disc wouldn't load. At first, I thought my player was broken or something, but another disc played just fine. It wasn't until I changed the region settings on the remote that the disc finally loaded. Anyone else had a similar issue? I found it odd because on my old Sony blu-ray player (and the one before that, too, I believe) whenever I played a region-locked disc, the disc would load, but I'd get the screen warning telling me the disc was region-locked.

Do you have an older Sony BD remote? Because they're pretty much universally interchangeable.

I have most of them memorized but a back light button would've been nice to have.

Cigar/sausage fingers don't work on this remote, you need to have dainty/needle like fingers to work it.

Don't know if this has been answered since your post but YES it causes issues. It will treat non-DV 4Ks, BDs and even DVDs with the DV settings and look incorrect (some people say they don't notice much/any difference on HDR10 4Ks or even BDs but then some people can't see the difference between DVDs and Blu-rays; it's there though!).

It's a pain but after playing a DV encoded disc you should manually turn it off then next time you play a DV disc turn it on manually again.
