That would be my guess. I have played quite a few 4k, standard Blu and DVD discs on both. Again, no issues for me. It is, as far as I can tell, a very popular player, due to, I'm guessing, it's capabilities at it's particular price point.

If I were to buy a unit from 220 Electronics that froze often, would they likely be willing to exchange it for another?

Possibly, check their Return Policy. But I do know they have a pretty good reputation for customer service, and they offer a life time guarantee on any region coding issues. As far as a warranty on the actual unit and not their region code, that is probably fairly standard 90 day to a year, or something of that sort. Again, I'd have to look at what they sent me with it. Although I would think that info is also readily available on their webpage.

The only reason why I bought this player in the first place is so we have a spare 4K player in the house. |

I haven't had any freezing issues either yet, although I've only watched four 4K UHDs on it so far.

Nah it's not that bad.
I've watched hundreds of movies since I got it back in 2018. Only a handful were problematic and they are usually WB discs. Even before I had a Sony player I had problems with WB discs. Here's the ones that had read errors: Godzilla King of Monsters UHD had a problem after 96 minutes. (WB disc) Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets UHD had a few problems (WB disc) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 BD had a few problems (WB disc) Man of Steel BD had a few problems (WB disc) Black Hawk Down UHD had a problem at 14 minutes (Sony disc) Jurassic Park: Lost World UHD had a problem at 36 minutes (Universal disc) |

Bought this player and on the second movie I played (Alita 4k) the Sony powered off after 45 minutes. It will not power back on or eject the disc which is stuck in there. I tried unplugging and plugging back up but the player wont do anything. I want to return it (which I can) but how do I get the disc out?

I got this player 10 days ago and have watched 9 4K BD-100 movies without freezing or skipping. Most of the movies are reported by other people but so far this player is working 100% fine. No issues with regular Blu rays either.
The player came with the latest software installed and I have an Apple TV 4K so I don’t need streaming services installed, all network settings off. The upscale is off as well as I prefer my LG C9 do it. I also have it connected to a smart plug which turn off when I don’t use it (maybe there is a cycle reset everytime I do this). I don’t know if this is the way but for me it has worked perfectly and I’m very happy with this purchase. |

Hey peeps, my x700 has been performing great with 4k dvds. Back before i had a 4k TV, when i was mostly watching blu's it would sometimes not play movies, or it would get to the menus and not show the play options, it would like "loop" the menu screen and you would never see on the onscreen options lol. Anyway, what would be another good Sony upgrade from x700 that contains all the same features? Thanks!

So I've had the x700 for a couple of years now and been pretty happy with it. No problems except the rare disc freeze toward the end of watching a UHD like some other members have reported.
BUT, I recently moved into a new house with a much larger media room and I was able to properly mount all the speakers of my 7.2.4 Atmos upfiring system. This room, which is nearly twice as big as the one in my old house, has made a world of difference in the soundstage. Now, I recently got both a Xbox Series X and a PS5, and decided to see how they did at playing UHDs just for funzies. What I immediately noticed was how much of a fuller sound I was getting on Atmos tracks when playing UHDs through both gaming systems. I checked the x700 to make sure I didn't accidentally have DRC on or something, but no. I played the same UHD (Kong: Skull Island) on the x700 and it was obvious the sound just wasn't as full. I then Googled a bit and saw some reviews that said a drawback of the x700 was it had subpar sound, particularly for audiophiles, especially compared to the x800. Anyway, don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread before, but thought I'd share my experience. I'm now thinking of getting one of the Panasonic players or the new model of the x800 that now has Dolby Vision. |

![]() But I can tell a difference. The sound seems a bit muddier, slightly muffled on the x700. Here's what they said in the What Hi-Fi review I read: "We’d like a bit more gusto and heft to the overall sound, though. The Sony UBP-X800’s expansive and muscular sound elicits a more visceral reaction to crashes, wallops and thunderous blows. The X700 sounds a tad lightweight in comparison, though it never suffers any wince-inducing brightness despite the leaner tone." I'm going to do some further testing and make sure it's not my HDMI cable or something—the XSX and PS5 both have the latest HDMI 2.1 cables, and I've got a 2.1 going from my receiver to TV, but I think my x700 is hooked up with an older one. |

Yeah keep us posted. I'm just wondering if this crosses into territory that is beyond my meager surround sound. I use the x700 paired with a polk audio 5.1.2 system, Denon Adyssey. Sounds great for what it is. My living room is great for sound. Anywho.

Well it's not like I have a super high-end system or anything. It's a Pioneer Elite 9.2 receiver paired with a cheap Pyle 2-channel amp to make it 11.2. The speakers are Polk T series front towers, surrounds and center channel, the subs are Polk PSW108's, and the 4 Atmos are up-firing Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers.

Could be the cable, or maybe the HDMI port on the receiver is it full bandwidth? Mine seems fine but I've only used it and the old Samsung. That's one thing I kinda want to upgrade but it's been real solid for me so haven't bothered.
