To those readers who couldn’t/didn’t attend yesterday’s SMPTE Educational webinar titled “HDR: PQ and HLG – Presented by the BBC”, as that (unlike Lars’s presentation on the last page) was restricted to SMPTE members or non-members for a fee….

without me infringing upon that exclusivity, this is the best I can offer…..

Start at FAQ #13….

Sony love using that event as an excuse to shoot some eye candy, I remember seeing it on demo HD footage in-store years ago, a bit with Sergio Garcia (I think?) almost getting a hole in one is burned into my brain from seeing it so many times.

For some reason , today, women nationally as well as internationally are on my mind (and all the goodness they do). So, with regards to…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post13120373

I missed the webinar on Wednesday due to time zone differences, but have now accessed her (https://www.linkedin.com/in/virginie-drugeon-5414b94) slides, so for those who haven’t seen the entire set as it pertains to UHD phase 2….https://www.dvb.org/resources/public...dvbwebinar.pdf

Yes, Sony has put concerted effort into the production of that event which in years past has been a proving ground for Sony’s latest technology….

Next week, Andy (about 1/3 of the way down the page - https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/events/prod...s2017_bios.pdf ) should. by proof of concept, provide a little more boost to the HLG format with Planet Earth 2.

Gotta run now to watch me some…..http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/chinas...er-powerhouse/ , but still coming out of the Premier League from England.

C’mon Kris Deering ^, now it’s your turn to get to the real goods here (I did my exclusivity revelation part as that finishing info for OAS:TNC is still, to this day, not revealed on imdb…..http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2872570/...ef_=tt_dt_spec).

If you weren’t out being part of making history yesterday with your wife and daughter(s)?, did you at least attend the Stacey Spears high rez (somewhat HDR too) imagery get together that I heard about up thar in the NW?

I guess not ….and I needed an in person Monday morning news fix to what they covered.

Oh well, onward to something else. With all this recent HLG love on the past couple posts, I guess we should give a plug to Dolby Vision, for balance. I’ll try to think of something along that line later. Somebody PM me one of those Dolby Vision YouTubes that maybe we can comment on. I like YouTube.

Default Dolby Vision Makes Big Splash at CES 2017

Scott Wilkinson also gives a plug for Dolby Vision:

"Why is support for Dolby Vision important? In my opinion, Dolby Vision is better than HDR10, primarily because DV uses dynamic metadata, whereas HDR10 uses static metadata.
...
As I mentioned earlier, the open SMPTE standard for HDR, commonly called HDR10, is being updated to include dynamic metadata as specified in ST.2094, but it requires HDMI 2.1 to convey from one device to another—which, in turn, requires new hardware to support the higher bandwidth, and it won’t be available in consumer products for about a year.

Isn’t this just another format war?
No; just as different audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X can be implemented within AVRs and other audio devices, so can various HDR formats coexist within displays and players.
Thus, it doesn’t matter what HDR format a given program uses; a player and display that implements multiple formats can accommodate the content and display it to its best advantage."

^ Well, someone indulged me as to a Youtube .

Question from the reporter at CES 2017: So they wouldn’t need to get the Dolby Vision modes calibrated?

^ Specifically…“So there is that option as well, it’s not absolutely necessary….we’ve seen that the way we work with these manufacturers is that we calibrate these modes pretty well and then what you want to compensate for is really the variation in the manufacturing process”, from

I think he is friendly with Robert.

I am used to posting on AVS with links to Blu-ray.com.

To this exact thread? or the 4K Movies Releases thread?
Then you must be an anomaly.

Perhaps not, but the ICtCp color space will be applicable to either PQ or HLG . More refinement at the last HEVC meeting. This all takes time.

To this exact thread and to other thread of "Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K Hardware and Technology".

I learned a lot from Blu-ray.com and from AVS.
BTW, thank you very much!

I'd like to be friendly with everyone.
Life is better in a friendly environment.
