Hey, Joe Schmoe is gonna need it for all that 8K sports that's just around the corner! Bigger numbers = better.

Seriously though, 4K@120 is a very nice feature for gaming, when most 4K PC monitors are still 60Hz. Now GPUs just need to catch up on the HDMI front, seeing as the DP developers seem to have given up on releasing actual products.

Most??

There are tons of HRR PC displays that are over 60.
And they don't lie about their spec.

Ah yes of course, 8K sports! Better get those HDM 2.1 TVs in quick, while the best that even a TV-loving nation like the US can manage right now is a 1080p-upscaled "4K" Superbowl

I'm happy for them gamers but damn, it's hilarious how 2.1 has so little practical usage for day-to-day viewing.

Exactly my thoughts.

Right now, HDMI 2.1 is almost at the bottom of my wishlist for a new TV.

worthwhile spec in that it's ^ to support the capture of 8K resolution content at 30 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit format in either Canon Log or HEVC (PQ) compression

Out Of This World! Tom Cruise Plots Movie To Shoot In Space With Elon Musk’s SpaceX

I’m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space. It’s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff.

I think I’ll confine myself to more low altitude Insider exclusive heads-ups, ŕ la :

later being independently video verified and appreciated by locals - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15701661

b.t.w., as some viewers are reporting an undersaturated, etc. look to the SDR version of Season 3 of Ozark, I posted this info yesterday to a good group of well-rounded HDR guys on another forum, so I guess I’ll pass it on here too for those having interest - https://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-h...l#post59593582

Note to PaulGo et al., if you scroll further on down the page you’ll see Madeleine will be giving an update on ATSC 3.0 and various market transition activities

My main concern with ATSC 3.0 is how the broadcasters will use it. Instead of 4K content I believe they will just stuff it with more limited bandwidth sub-channels.

That and more ways to advertise at you.

ATSC 3.0 is a joke in the U.S. There is no incentive to actually improve A/V quality and compression as most everything is coming from a streamed platform now, even some sports.

Unfortunately, broadcasters here are not like NHK in Japan. 8k with 24 channel audio? Nope! Not in the U.S.

I think most people would love to have OTA broadcast to any degree improved. I usually don't like what comes from the local stations compared to streaming from the networks web site. The audio is just so much better even if it isn't lossless. If they could provide HD w/HDR OTA broadcasts with decent lossy audio, take it, its far better then they are doing now.

Your NHK Satellite broadcasts are not what consumers would use anyways.

Why do you feel this way? ATSC 1.0 OTA was always less compressed than OTT.

Most regional broadcasters will be sharing their 6 Mhz channels so they will combine two 6 Mhz channels into one 12 Mhz channel for special programming that with be broadcast in 4K HDR.

With all this said Paul and you are also correct that the broadcasters are looking forward to the new revenue opportunities they will have with more subcarrier channels and two-way feedback for buying products OTA.

My favorite example of a great use for the new 2nd screen feed was done by an AZ PBS station that sent test messages to parents when their kids were watching a PBS channel and they gave the parents tips on how to engage the kids with questions on what they learned and to get the kids to talk about their understanding, feelings and opinions on what they watched on the PBS program.

Tom will, uh, find a way. But as Penton is spending so much time with his "well-rounded" AVS buddies these days will we even get the scoop on the space pole?
