I'm not very confident that we'll get everything we want on 4k but I feel really good about Kubrick titles hitting the format... and sooner rather than later...

same with Spielberg, Cameron, James Bond films, etc

I just try to remain confident 4K physical can carve out a sustainable niche as digital takes hold. It might take another 5 or 8 year's till we start seeing the same level of back catalogue service Blu-ray is receiving. But I think the format can and, will get there. Given so many of these releases on standard Blu-ray are from 4K masters.

I think people really underestimate the number of film enthusiasts there are out there. I mean I guess we are a quieter bunch than music enthusiasts.

We sit in cinemas, or darkened rooms in our homes. And we don't really talk to our friends that heavily about film I'd say.

There's been a lot of great back catalogue releases this year so far. This one takes the biscuit. Well maybe not in audio.

I hope to eventually be able to afford a 75"+ high end screen, proper Atmos setup and super comfy power leather recliners but for now I'll keep going to good theaters to enjoy films to the fullest. IMAX, Dolby Cinema and even modern conventional theaters are pretty nice places to watch movies once you figure out the best seats to reserve. Audiences are a crapshoot as always but it's not quite as irritating having a night out ruined when you have a monthly pass that allows you to watch the movie again if necessary.

Probably because it was a $5 ticket people gave less of a care that they were wasting money.
That's how I rationalized going to what I knew was a substandard cinema to see this. Luckily my audience was very well behaved and the only irritating noise was coming from my ancient squeaky seat.

When you move from Colorado to South Florida, and you realise you'd forgotten to load the box with 500 criterion Blu-rays onto the van.

Saw this in cinemas last night. Looked good, but the projection quality was a bit hazy and hard to judge the 4K remaster.

Sampled the 4K disc today and it looks great!

Same experience at my theater. Shame this didn't get an IMAX or Dolby release like Apocalypse Now and The Matrix. Seems like WB cheaped out (surprise, surprise) and was content to promote Dr. Sleep on mediocre screens. It's especially surprising since even a Chinese language film managed to get some IMAX showings this week.

Yep I've emailed WBHV regarding my code. I can't tell if my code contains 0s or Os but either way it's failing to redeem.

No original mono. No new Atmos. Disappointing for both camps. Not to say the 5.1 is bad, it just doesn’t satisfy those who want original or those who want the full audio upgrade.

Anyone else get 4K that skips?
Where Wendy discovers Jack’s writing ‘All work and no play ...”
And another skip just prior to this scene. Can’t remember the exact place.

WB has went in and doctored the 5.1 some more. No new sound effects as far as I'm aware, but they've chopped-off highs that they've funnily enough boosted. They've toyed with the bass too. It's atypical audio treatment, even the likes of Criterion will go in and do the same thing with original mixes. It's a shame the audio equivalent of DNR and other video filtering practices haven't caught up in regards to audio presentation.

Didn't notice any skips, however when I very first placed the disc in the tray, the player came back with a message saying something along the lines of "Unable to read the disc. Check for fingerprint marks or smudges." So I ejected the disc and cleaned it off very carefully and then re-inserted to absolute viewing and audio pleasure.

The 4K version of this movie is SPECTACULAR!! Cannot say enough about the picture detail, the HDR, and the audio. (Even though it's not Dolby Atmos, it still rocks a good setup.) THUMBS WAY UP!!
