I don't yet have a 4K blu-ray player but if the standard 1080p Blu-Ray is from the new transfer then I see it as worth an upgrade. but if its the same transfer as 2007 then it doesn't seem worth it for me to upgrade until I know I am getting a 4K Blu-Ray player
It's the new transfer used for the UHD and it's marvelous! You can confidently say goodbye to the 2007 blu ray.

It’s technically the new restoration, but it has a poor HDR to SDR conversion so the color and other aspects look a bit off compared to the UHD, which looks terrific.

No prob! Color is great as well. It's worthless to UHD owners as usual but it's a beautiful blu ray.

It has a better bitrate and encode but the transfer was made for the UHD and HDR and WB did a rather poor job converting it: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...134512&i=0&l=0

As you can see, the UHD looks as it should and the standard blu-ray is lacking in many areas.

I didn't notice any trouble on my old X800 either. And I was looking for it too after the trouble I had with the Casino 4K disc.

Definitely. I compared the old Blu-ray (and the old European Blu-ray) to the new Blu-ray and then the 4K.

Even the jump from the old to new Blu-ray was unbelievable (this was at point blank range). The jump to 4K was that much better again of course. Dump your old discs!

Watched this movie for the 1st time ever last night.

Transfer was really phenomenal. The opening scene with the mountains was incredible on my 82". Every detail in the mountains/rocks/trees were crystal clear and very 3d looking. Even inside the hotel was rzer sharp with extreme refinement. Will be using the opening scene as demo material for friends.

Probably one of the better (if not the best) transfer I've seen since getting my 82" back in August.

I have to say. I’m a seasonal horror fan. I only watch Halloween in October. Friday the 13ths in the summer but the Shining I can watch all year round. Watched it at the beginning of the month but already want to watch again.

I watched it yesterday.

Wow.

What an amazing, filmic, beautiful, handsome disc it is.

Since I'm from Europe it was also the first time I've seen the original, US version and yes, it's better then the international one.

Wow.

I found a DVD case that holds 2 discs. I used the DVD cover from the "Full Aspect Ratio" DVD. Hidden behind that cover I put the 4K cover, which I obviously do not prefer. Inside the case I have the aforementioned DVD and the 4K version.

I have already done the same thing, using the DVD artwork for BD's of Alien, Planet Of The Apes, and Fiddler On The Roof.

That cover looks like something out of MS Paint

You have a projector or an 82" TV? I didn't think they made TVs larger than 75". I agree this looks fantastic and I have a 75". I'm even tempted to watch my copy again soon. Great film too.
