Well if contrast boosting and incorrect colour timing is your thing...

Has anyone else reported sound issues with the 4k? This thread is too long to find anything. I’m experiencing Crackling here and there on an Xbox One X & E7 OLED.

I’m getting it on my Panasonic 820, so sounds like it’s a dud disc. Is yours the UK version like mine?

What’s the deal with exchanges, do we just complain and hope they make a correctly synced batch?

Have you compared to the digital version or the BD?

Will see how the night shots look (I think I saw the chopper blades on one of the hotel shots taken from a helicopter). Don’t have it in other formats so can’t compare
I’m watching my iTunes copy tonight when the missus is at work. I got it for £5. I feel bad for buying it on digital though even if it’s cheaper than the disc. I should support the physical versions and It’s not really mine as all that buys is streaming rights to watch it as much as I want. If I like it as I’ve never seen it before, I’m going to buy it on disc. I just need to find it for £15 or less or I’ll have paid out too much!

Keep a pair of shades handy as some of the scenes can get too bright

Good thing this is the UHD thread for the Shining.

Just look at the window in the background. Detail in the top photo, blown out in the bottom.

Default Crackling Sound

So no one has experienced this in and out crackling/static sound when watching this? I would love to try out another disk player, but everything else I have watched to test my equipment doesn't do this. Wondering if my disk is defective.

Well nothing is ideal. You guys all are talking about "blown out", is that the only problem you have with the old transfer? When Arrow makes shitty "blown out" or boosted contrast remasters such like "Creepshow 2" everyone is happy about it. But here we need to look out of the window in the background and judge previous transfer. If you like the new remaster, you should understand that original movie cannot be this dull.

The 2019 timing looks more like the 35mm print I saw last year, at least in that scene. The movie isn't bright and contrasty like the '07. That older screenshot looks contrast boosted to me as well.

I'm not arguing about it. All I'm saying is the remaster looks terribly dull and I would prefer previous one. The film aged, it may look like that today or a year ago, but I believe the movie looked not that dull back in 1980. They needed to correct it at least a bit, other way to make a remaster? Just scanning the film cannot be called "remastering", because they also removed the scratches...

Capsaholic is a terrible site and their caps never match with real life. The UHD does not have a dull look and the contrast levels are very good. I have Stanley Kubrick’s approved laserdisc and saw a 35mm print recently, the colors of UHD match well for the most part. Both the LD and the 35mm print are a bit warmer and more saturated and contrasty. UHD deviates in colour in outdoor shots featuring snow. Overall the UHD is as faithful as we can wish for for these modern transfers and one of the best UHD discs released yet.

LOL.

Again...flaws in HDR-SDR conversion are a thing.

This issue is not unique to caps-a-holic so why do you keep pointing them out?

Hilarious that you claim all screencaps on there are wrong yet use a decades-old laserdisc that was mastered for CRT televisions as a frame of reference.
