The color timing is excellent and so is everything else, except for the slightly zoomed in framing (they went from 1:1.85 to 1:1.78 and zoomed in rather than adding to the top and bottom of the frame).

On most shots it makes little to no difference, but some of the wide angle shots suffer a bit from it. Look at this one for example: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...34410&i=11&l=0

It might be nitpicking, but I feel that the zoomed in image is worse in composition (considering Kubrick's eye for such details) and it also loses some of the feeling of dread by looking more like a 'normal' shot. The uneasy feeling caused by the wide angle shot is more pronounced on the original blu ray. Again, it's not a huge difference and how much of it you notice in actual viewing is another matter.

I would still definitely recommend the 4k because of all the other improvements, as long as you prefer the US cut over the European cut.

Thanks.

Did the BD of the European cut have the same issue with the pink tennis ball?

This is one of the best UHDs. It looks fantastic. My one nitpick is the colour timing at the end in the snow scenes does not match 35mm prints. Other than that, a fantastic release.

Isn’t mono the kissing disease? Do people just want it to prove they kissed someone?

It is indeed the kissing disease and that's exactly why they want it in 4K.

Was there ever a replacement program for the sync issues on this disc? Or is the movie really that full of bad ADR issues? It was driving me nuts when I watched the disc for the first time.

EDIT: To add to this, my previous player was a crappy Sony x700 that gave me lots of sync issues. So I don't know if this disc genuinely has sync errors or if it was just my player. I haven't watched this yet on my new Panasonic player so I don't know if I would have any sync issues again with this disc.

I've had the Sony X700 for 2 years now and haven't had any issues with this disc or any other UHD discs. Sounds like you have a faulty player.

I've been reading tons of complaints about the x700 across the various UHD threads in here. They seem to make a lot of faulty players. Some seem to have no issues but many have a lot of problems. Mine was constantly freezing, locking up, stuttering or failing out of sync.

Not sure if it counts but I've had my multi-region X800 for 3 years now and I think its gone wrong 3 times max. A quick reboot and it was fine though.

I’ve had two X800s and both occasionally require a hard reboot to read discs, especially WB UHD, but have otherwise been solid players. I also have a X700 and the main issue with it is the inconvenience of having to toggle Dolby Vision on and off (a feature unfortunately, not a bug). It also occasionally gets hung up on WB UHD menus when booting up but doesn’t require a hard reboot like the X800. Great players for the price IMO.

Currently I'm using the LG UBK90 and this is the only disc I've had sync issues with. It's not just isolated to your player

How does the remastered 2K blu-ray included with this 4K release stack up against the one from 2007?
