Not really. Tron Legacy, Aquaman, TDK, TDKR, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Gotg etc. looks awesome even at home and there are folks at home with 120-150 inch screens.

Personally speaking I don't "despise" it at all. My one caveat is that the extra height should actually be used for something, to frame up the picture that way and not just show more foreheads, skies, legs and feet like any other 'open matte' version would do. I completely understand why it works for other people, it just doesn't work all that often for me.

Using it sparingly for hectic action scenes for an actual variable AR is one thing as I'm not so likely to start noticing the framing, but when it's used so much that the movie might as well have been embiggened throughout OR is indeed fixed to 1.90 throughout like the last two Avengerses then the woolly framing really starts to niggle at me. Should really watch Aquaman in 3D at some point, see if I like the 2.39 version any better.

Good argument. The number of movies that use it effectively and the number of people with screens that big are both incredibly low. You’ve really convinced me.

How? I saw Endgame in IMAX and thought it better fit the open matte format better than Infinity War.

I hate the Nolans as there was no rhyme or reason to the switches

Chris Evans really stole the show here followed by RDJ.
Both of them got what they wanted but

[Show spoiler]

Heart and soul characters are now gone and personally an Avengers film without them is not going to work for me.

There is a small chance Cap might be back but looks like he won't for a foreseeable future. Marvel will have to reference them often to retain their fan base.

Fair points.

Watched AQUAMAN in IMAX 3D and thought it looked disappointing, dull, dim and almost 2D. Had to take the glasses so many times to see what's happening during some scenes. It was a film made to showcase HDR IMO.

Gravity and 2.0 (Tamil film) are arguably the best 3D films IMO.

I felt the same when I saw Endgame in IMAX 3D. There was good 3D depth at times, but mostly it was just a nuisance, and the image felt too dark and lifeless.
I wish more IMAX releases would be 2D.

This was a 2D IMAX release... my local theater had only one daily showing in 3D on its IMAX screen, out of five I think, and they stopped showing it in IMAX 3D altogether after just two weeks.

Well it's still running as IMAX 3D, and has since launch, here in Denmark.
Someone actually did ask the cinema on Facebook, if a 2D version would be available too.
Their response was that it was shot in the IMAX 3D format, and so that was the only version they got. If you got a 2D version, I envy you.

My theater used to premiere all Marvel movies in opening night in IMAX 3D and switched it to 2D about a year ago. I think Gotg VOL 2. was the last 3D open they did. I love seeing it in IMAX 2D and the picture is awesome.

Yep always prefer IMAX 2D over 3D. Better clarity on a bigger screen ftw.

Our IMAX theater is a Dual Laser setup. Maybe I just had higher expectations after Infinity War last year, which I thought looked great, even though it was the same cinema with the setup.

The local Laser IMAX alternated between 2D and 3D showings for the entire run, made it easy for me to catch one showing of each.

Not saying it stopped in 3D everywhere, just that my local theater didn't keep it showing in that format. Don't know why your theater said it's only IMAX 3D, because it definitely isn't. I can't think of a movie in many years that was released in IMAX 3D but not IMAX 2D.

I saw it first in 2D IMAX, and went again two days later. I wanted to check it out in IMAX 3D the second time, but unfortunately the only IMAX 3D showtime they had was the last one of the day at 10:00 pm; I wasn't about to go to a 3+ hour movie by myself that late. So I never saw it in IMAX 3D, but the comments here make me feel better; seems I wasn't missing much.

Disagree, frankly the Laser IMAX 3D presentation was one of the best of any format I've ever seen.
