Incredible movie. Easily in my top 5 best Zombie (or infected) film ever made. If you have this in your city, go see it. Hollywood will for sure be doing a remake of this.

Though I would agree Zombie fatigue has definitely set in, one can never underestimate what a talented director might bring to the genre.
Just when I'd had it with vampires, Only Lovers Left Alive came out and I loved it.I was less enthused with A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and Byzantium, but both had their strengths and individual vision. Will certainly give this a try. |

This was easily the best zombie movie/show I've seen in at least 10 years if not longer, and yes that includes 28 weeks later in there (where I only loved the opening, which I would rate as good or better than Train to Busan)
I had my doubts that South Korea of all places (never seen a Zombie movie out of there) would be able to come out with a zombie movie that can teach the rest of the world a thing or two Easily 4.5/5 |

I think it's less the fact it's good and the bit about teaching the world a thing or two. I think it's more a comment on country than the quality. It was just a bit of a strange phrase is all.

It really is very good indeed: screw zombies, it's one of the best action films of the year full-stop! You can't beat a good train-based action thriller and this combines that rather limited sub-genre with the zombie sub-genre with real aplomb. It has a great combination of escalating tension, fun characters who you actually care about, and zombies who have physiological limitations that allow for tense setpieces and make it believable (to an extent) that our heroes can deal with them. How often do we sit through zombie films where the zombies seem capable of hunting down the slightest hint of human activity? No zombie ninjas in this flick! Yes the final act is horribly contrived and extremely melodramatic, but it didn't ruin what came before really - and how the hell do you end a zombie flick these days anyway? Just about every scenario has played out. Pisses all over Snowpiercer, and I quite liked that!
One thing that really grabbed me about this film: Momentum. For years I've seen horrors with fast moving zombies who, despite being mostly brainless, always seem to gracefully control heir movement and run in crowds in a manner that could be described as organised chaos. In this the zombies just charge full speed ahead, crashing and clamouring over each other in really satisfying waves of uncontrolled momentum. Really made for an interesting dynamic in how they operated imo. Oh and I can't believe my local cinema actually showed this! Think it's the first Korean film I've managed to catch at the cinema. Screening was surprisingly busy as well, might be because they were only screening it for one week and this was the final showing! I think they've lost some money not showing it for a fortnight tbh as it was one of the busiest "end of week" screenings I've been to all year. Can't believe the general audience haven't grown tired of zombies yet! ![]() |
