Sony Pictures The Amazing Spider-Man 3D Blu-ray (2012) [Region Free]

This is thread for The Amazing Spider-Man 3D
When the blu-ray is released, this thread will include that. Till then, we can use this thread to discuss the 3D in this and post any 3D footage as well.
Starting off, two 3D trailers from Sony Japan:

This is a must see for the 3D and hopefully the movie will be good too. The action looks cool anyway.

Sony is releasing this on Blu 3D, so it'll be a single disc version (which I prefer the compactness/lightweight of). Hopefully they give us the price to match the lower production costs of a single disc. I can see this as a late November or December 2012 blu 3D release.

Anyone know if the 360/PS3 Amazing Spider Man game will be in 3D also? If so, I'd consider it on the PS3.

Agreed, I keep finding myself more impressed with the 3D in the movie, and the movie itself just looks awe inspiring with the Spidey acrobatics!! I've honestly never seen Spidey move quite the way he does in this movie compared to the others. I just hope that the story lives up to the depth of the first 2 Raimi films.

In regards to the videogame, I kept trying to find info about the 3D for the game, and I don't think it's gonna happen :*( I just don't get why they wouldn't considering the fact that it would make sense too to tie in with the 3D of the movie . However, the game to me, even without 3D acutally looks really really awesome, and that it could be the best Spider-Man game in years! Looks like Spider Man 2 but wayyyyyy more stylized!

The only 3D version I've seen for the game is on the 3DS, with the game demo they just released. It's actually pretty fun. Hope it's like the console versions *fingers crossed!!* The 3D felt a little screwed up to me though, sometimes it looked great, other times it kept fluctuating the depth in a way that made my eyes feel really uncomfortable. I hope it's just the demo, because I would probably be more tempted to buy the game if the 3D is just right

But yeah that is really cool the way Sony has been handling their 3D blus for the most part(why'd they stop with the dvd copies I wonder????). Makes much more sense and so far I haven't noticed any dip in the 3D of their releases, even with all the extras crammed on it.

Btw, is their an announcement of the 3D bluray already, or was that just a guess on your part?

The action 3D scenes look great in the theatrical trailer when I saw it. Night time especially with all of the city lights below. I'd love to see them 3D-ize Spiderman 1, 2 and 3 with Toby Maguire, being Sony 3D afterall.

They really nailed Spider Man's movement this time from the look of it. In 1 to 3 originals, Spider Man had a sense of moving like a puppet or computer animated cartoon, instead of the finesse and subtle movements of a real human being. It comes down to the animators really. Or the motion capture if it applies here?

You're right. I saw the box cover and it doesn't say "3D World" by Sony on it, as Silent Hill Downpour does. Lost opportunity. The game still looks promising with the new close up camera view though.

Thanks for the info on the 3DS spidey. I don't own the system, but it's nice to see new games are still being developed, including Super Mario Land 2 3D I read somewhere (is it an old game with 3D update or new I wonder?)

I haven't seen a second disc in any Sony release other than Green Hornet 3 pack 3D. The only nice thing about those multi packs excluding the sometimes higher price, is the fact you have a back up or can give an included movie disc away to a friend if they haven't seen it. Otherwise, I don't mind the single disc 3D package at all, the picture quality is tops.

5/5 for 2D video and 3D is a solid 4.5/5

Ordered this a few days ago and just waiting on delivery sometime soon

Default The Amazing Spider-Man Review

The Amazing Spider-Man begins when Peter Parker is only a child. His parents have to go away and they leave him with his aunt and uncle, May and Ben. Peter's parents die under suspicious circumstances and the mystery of their death is one of the driving forces of the story. The story picks up when Peter is in high school. He gets picked on and beat up often by a bully named Flash. The pursuit of knowing more about what happens to his parents leads him to Dr. Curt Connors who works at Oscorp. While there, Peter gets bitten by a spider who gives him the powers to stick to walls, spider-sense and increased strength. Blah Blah Blah....

The death of his uncle leads him to create a costume and become the superhero vigilante known as Spider-Man. In the meantime, Dr. Connors is looking to cure the human world of all weaknesses, especially his own because he is missing his right arm. Using the DNA of a lizard, in hopes of re-growing his arm leads to a terrible side effect by turning him into a human lizard. Now a villain, The Lizard devises a diabolical plot against New York City unless Spider-Man can stop him.

So we all should know if you watched previous Spider-Man movies the basic plot of how he becomes Spider-Man. In a way, I wish they left all that out of this new movie. To be honest for me the beginning was boring and predictable because I have seen it all before on the other Spider-Man! I understand they had a new actor, but they could have continued where the other movie left off instead of retelling it all again.

Other then the beginning I actually enjoyed the rest of the movie. I saw it in the IMAX when it first came out and was blown away by the 3D towards the middle and end of the movie. And the Blu-Ray 3D transfer is just as good I am happy to report!

The 3D is subtle at the begining with a few good depth shots of New York at times but once Peter turns into Spider-Man it really kicks in. Depth in this movie is amazing! When the camera looks up at a tall building it feels the same as if you were standing in New York City looking up at that building yourself. Often times when Spidy shoots his web they appear to come right outa the screen at you, and a few times while he swings his feet come out into your face

The bluray also has some cool extras such as director commentary telling you all about the film, the camera man talks about how to shoot 3D and how they got such good depth with the camera and they added some of the best clips you can play around with using your remote to control the convergence making it have more depth or popout.

This is a must buy 3D movie of course and something you will enjoy if you love Spidy and 3D.

Why would you start a thread about a review that you did ? ...... Very strange

Erm, probably because this is the 3D Blu-Ray Movie section where users talk of 3D blu-ray movies, give their opinions, post new movies and reviews of them and talk of the 3D quality and experience

It isn't out in the US yet that I know of but is in a few countries. I am in Japan and got an advance copy.

Based on these two trailers, the dialogue sequences look a little flat but the action sequences look incredible! Loads of parallax and I love how they really showcase the height! I think the swinging sequences will be demo worthy! The part where spidey swings out of the screen.....
There are a few pop out moments as well. The first person sequences should make for some interesting 3D as well.

Pause the trailer and observe the 3D as the editing is pretty fast.

As long as the action is in 3d, do we really need to see people talking pop out the screen???

I kind of agree with that notion, but it is nice when the 3d is strong in dialogue scenes imo . Feels more immersive

I hear you, but it generally wont happen as they want certain scenes to stick out, and thus the creation of a depth script.

If it doesnt require it, they will usually dial it way down.

Yes, absolutely (in a story-appropriate, realistic, non-gimmicky manner). Dialogue scenes especially need strong 3D so viewers can connect with the characters better emotionally. Watch Hugo if you haven't had the chance. Spider-man has it all backwards. If you went over to your love interest's house for dinner, would you keep one eye closed to better focus on the conversation and not be distracted by her natural human dimensions? There is no good reason within the story for those scenes to look so abnormally flat.

Very fun movie and great action 3D experience, but there's lots of wasted potential here due to the producers' strange preference for flat non-action 3D. The majority of premium-paying, glasses-wearing 3D audiences want objects with appropriate 3D dimensionality in 100% of scenes and do not enjoy 3D that dips below "noticeable."

I loved the overall experience in IMAX and will buy the $28 SteelBook on 11/9, but it's still disappointing that Spider-man is not the 3D masterpiece that it easily could and should have been.
