How does the Screenwriters Federation thing differ from the Writers Guild of America?

That was a great weekend. I luckily scored (free) pit passes and seeing Nicky win at home was a treat. Good food, good friends, awesome weather and Moto GP.

Someday I want to stand by the uphill kink at Spa when the Fi cars go through without lifting.... "flat" they call it. That'll raise the hair on your arms.

Nicky was in the Casey role that weekend- just on a different level than everyone else.

Okay, are you aware of the specific software(s) that typically exhibits the trait of after having applied the tracking data to the footage, one must invert the data to make things work?
Would that make you a screenshot sommelier?

Speaking of which. I posted the below over in the Bits thread but got lost in the spirited discussion. Seeing as I'm referring to a Sony title, maybe you can lend guidance.

Do you think there is any chance studios would include "version maps" with movies containing directors, extended and theatrical cuts. I'm probably calling this the wrong thing, but I'm referring to the 'map' that came with Close Encounters that tells you what was added or subtracted for each version. I thought this was a great supplement in with the movie and hope to see more like this in the future. Maybe even something digital on the disc itself!

Cheers

Special Note to Secret_Smile, please excuse the funky packaging that arrives with your set, as we ran out of our normal generic packing materials and my A.A. used whatever she had available on her desk at the time to get your stuff in the mail ASAP.
First off, Yay! Secondly, um okay...Guess I'll figure out what that means when it gets here.

Anyway, can't wait, and thanks again.

No matter , you did well and if the discussion continues, it will just get too technical for many here to enjoy and anyway, the question was addressed to *screenshot scientists* that purport to be post production ‘experts’, of which I don’t recall you ever exhibiting that trait.

The closest we/you ever got to that (if I recall your online handle correctly) was an old discussion we had about defocusing actors’ faces in modern day films and how (using screenshot *analysis*) it could be mistaken for (and sometimes is) pre-processing dnr applied by the compressionist, esp. if you take the time and effort to cherry-pick your screenshots.

Just as an aside, a lot of Quantum of Solace was shot mostly unfiltered with great glass during principal photography, which is a primary reason why the Blu-ray appears so sharp but, if one looks very, very closely at a couple of the choker shots you may notice that some actors’ faces appear slightly soft……..and viola, a current example of our past discussion in which I mentioned to you (?) that sometimes during post an ROI is drawn around actors’ faces to defocus them a bit.

To answer your question in regards to stabilizing imagery shake, what I was trying to say to you was that (like I think you mentioned before) if you choose a stationary point(s) and track its (their) motion across the entire sequence and then apply the tracking data to the original shaky footage in order to stabilize, there is at least one software out there that you often times have to invert the data to achieve the proper result. Not important.

The ‘version guide' that was put on Close Encounters was complex to build and likely won’t be used often.
Additionally, just off the top of my head, in regards to the Sony film library in particular, I think it’s rare that there are versions that are so significantly different that this sort of thing matters much.

Not to worry, I was referring to the outside packaging….which may give your girlfriend or wife (if you have either) expensive ideas if she sees it. That’s all.

Your Blu-ray collection of four movies is in original plastic wrap and completely virgin. The others to the other contest winners have been viewed once for Q.C. purposes. They are in pristine condition.

Uh-oh! Not just disappointment at what isn't inside, but instead... "It's just another one of your @#$% Blu-rays?!"

Thumbs up

I got my movie, from the contest, yesterday.

I would like to comment on the extreme DNR, EE, Jitter, Judder, Ringing and some other terms (that I just made up), through-out the presentation. Ha! I'm just kidding.

The movie was just as good as I remember and looked phenominal on Blu-ray!

I greatly look forward to the next contest! Thanks Penton!

My wife is a huge fan of Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice, so I ordered her the blu-ray version to replace the dvd version she currently has.

Although I will always choose to go work on my motorcycle or go for a ride rather than sit down to 5 hours of Pride & Prejudice, I did watch the first 15 minutes of the series last night to see how it looked. I was very impressed with the picture over the dvd. It was a great transfer.

My wife has plans to have some of our friends wives over to watch the complete series this Sunday. Meanwhile, the husbands are free to take a ride to Mt. St. Helens and back.

You forgot crushed blacks.......observed on some other Blu-rays.

Do you recall one of the initial perceived issues belabored ad nausea by the *scientists* who just couldn’t grasp the concept that the Blu-ray of Bram Stoker’s Dracula was as transparent as technically possible to the Director selected and approved answer print which was used as the source and who incessantly promoted the idea online that either the colorist or the compressionist screwed up?

Remember, just because the camera can (or did in some incarnation) show it, doesn’t mean that it is/was meant ultimately to be seen by audiences. That’s also a good concept to keep in mind when viewing some trailers and such.

P.S.
Heads-up people…….. I’ve got to curtail my online presence for awhile in order to get things done before NAB begins. So, please excuse the fact that I may only be able to drop in here for a minute or so over the next several days.

I once calculated the amount of time in hours that I worked on my motorcycle(s), [keep in mind these were racing dirt bikes] and compared it to the time I actually rode the thing.

The ratio came out to be around 10 to 1 (work on bike/ride bike).

The single greatest thing for me about bachelorhood?
I could roll my bike into the living room whenever I desired and change the piston rings, etc. All I needed was a sheet on the floor. I can just imagine the consequences if I ever tried getting away with that these days.

Hugh Dancy should have a great time while you are gone.
Don't come home early.

Reading maybe, but if the screengrabs are anything to go by (and I am always very sceptical about these publications, since none are in any way certifiable as the publishers of such screengrabs do not reveal settings and rarely tools to make a proper A/B comparison) at the very least the encoder seemed to have huge problems with the material. Therefore, a 5/5 rating is something I would not sign up on.
By the way: A&E did not go back to the Negative. A&E bought the master from the BBC, who own the licensing rights and the film materials. They did the going back to. A&E got a lot of merit in the past for something they did not do by writers who did not know better.
