No offense kp, but sorry, as I (the “bad-mannered half wit”) am not interested in answering anymore questions for awhile. Instead, I think I’ll take a nap as they say it improves cognitive functioning and also makes you more affable.

My advice?
Ask the well-mannered serious film Insider that has his full wits about him. He knows about what’s best regarding everything from wrangling pixels to corporate ways and means to what’s best for the sake of our planet.

P, while you're taking your "constitutional" (ie., break, not document) from answering questions, if you want me to make up stuff as a form of disinformation (or evidence of my own general ignorance/idiocy) just let me know...

As an example of such general internet misinformation:

Q: So, Brightstar, is it coming out in the US on BluRay?
A: Yes, but only as a mail in with 4 specially marked packages of Jimmy Dean Pancake-wrapped Sausages. Send in the UPC, and a note from your Doctor indicating that you're in fact still alive after consuming them.

Penton, as a gratefull member of this forum for the information you provide, and insights you offer as well as a fan of Mr Harris's work and his expertise in the area of film restoration I've found the last few days of postings upsetting and ultimately perhaps unnecessary.

It's clear you've taken umbridge with Mr Harris, partcularly at the way he has talked about Universal catalogue blu-rays, but as a fellow insider it's a shame you couldn't have contacted him by personal message and discussed your views between you, rather than out in the open for all to see, especially as it's now spilled into three thread's on this forum.

Whoever is right or wrong it's been a very sad few days for fan's of blu ray insiders. I hope you two can resolve your differences or agree to disagree - let's face it you've been as vocal with your dislike of screenshot scientists on this forum as Mr Harris has of Universal releases at the HTF. Maybe we can get back to informational debate as it was.

Holy %$@ those are real?! They were featured a couple of times on The Daily Show, and I was sure they were fake or something, since I honestly can't picture anyone eating those
By the way, Penton and Robert Harris are beginning to sound like my parents on some of their worse days, and that's not a good thing .

Yup. Can't buy them in Canada. Nor can you buy this (which Jon S dips the above in, to great effect):

I actually had a friend bring me a jar of the above back - think the taste of Bacon Bits. It's Kosher, and veggie friendly (read: contains no ingredients with an actual face... Basically miracle whip and liquid smoke)

Dee-lightful!

When my parents fought, I'd like to think about food.

Frankly, I'm thinking about this:

My arteries are getting clogged even by watching the picture . Think I'll pass on that one (good news since it means there's more for you ).

There is always a reason to my madness.

Anyway, this morning, I already said on Jeff’s thread that I’m done with him (meaning him and his latest Blu-ray mission to home theater nirvana) because you know us “half-wits” have the attention span of a gnat. Did you miss that?

Do you want it in blood or something?

In any case, as a student of film it looks compromised to me, and the panning and scanning bothers me.
Peter:

I apologize. After a few too many drinks during the BBQs over the course of this weekend I misread the intention of your post, and am sorry for having come after you with my "attacking me" comment. That was wrong, and for that I apologize...

That being said, I still stand by my own impression, which is that I have never personally felt that AP was "visually compromised" when viewing it at 2:1...

To reiterate, I would love for this film to presented in its originally photographed aspect ratio of 2.35:1 or at the very least the 70mm blow-up ratio of 2.2:1 on home video, but at the same time I'm not going to lie and act like the current 2:1 versions are visually "compromised", at least to me. You and others might honestly believe the image is visually compromised, but I just as honestly do not.

Vincent

well, commemorated the loss of Dennis Hopper by watching Easy Rider. I had absolutely no recollection of the film whatsoever, save the absolute last scene. Now I'm convinced that I never actually saw it, but had just seen the last moments so often in various cinematography, editing, and "indie filmmaking" clips that I must have filled in the rest.

It's a bit of a mess, all told, but a delightful on. The scene with Jack talking about freedom is just breathtaking, a truly transcendent bit of monologue, and his sentiments regarding the ambivalence of the American myth of freedom is just as true today. The included doc (from the LD, I take it, copyright '99) was also very well put together. The disc looks great, really pleased to dig into it, man.

Plus, the shots of Mardi Gras are all the more amusing midway through season one of Treme.

That's interesting to hear. Someone told me that Sony is already actively developing a MVC encoder, but it takes three days to encode one movie at this point. If that's not true, I couldn't believe that Sony would cede the professional MVC encoder market to Panasonic and MainConcept. (Although reportedly Custom Technology Corporation has been working on a MVC encoder of its own the past few months.)

That first clip had me laughing and wincing at the same time.

I'm just glad you included the second to clean my memory of the first.
