Max I was not referring to you - I have always admired your enthusiasm and no BS in your responses (both here and on AVS). What you say in one sentence that ex-junior VP could not get correct in a 100 pages. Just contribute when you can and realize I and many other members here value your comments.

P.S. I will always remember when you got fed up with that junior VP and told him what he really was!

Paul, a great one passed today in your neck of the woods (at Sibley just down the road from Georgetown).
He will be missed by all.

It is sad that Mr. Russert passed away I never met him but did help his mother in law to set up her computer and she told me nothing but good things about him.

Shocking, truly shocking-- an unexpected and huge loss of a trusted voice amongst all the crazies in today's media.

Big Russ and his wife must be heartbroken. Thoughts and prayers to them...

To fellow Blu-ray forum members around the world who might be unfamiliar with the name “Tim Russert”……among other things, a great son, father and husband.

Very dedicated and sincere. It is a tribute to him that all the news networks dedicated a substantial amount of time to corvering his life and accomplishments.

Wicky,
Thanks for blacking out the post above (Dobeeeeeeeeeeee!) concerning the Euro Cup soccer match because I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to watch it as tonight is Blu-ray night and I’ve got peeps coming over in about ˝ hour to enjoy…………..

Broken Trail

But if anybody did watch the ESPN2 broadcast of the match, I’m just wondering if they aired the Blu-ray/DVD trailer thingee for Shine a Light (by Martin Scorsese) during any commercial breaks?

Just wanted to throw in my note of respect for Mr. Russert. I really liked him and will miss his commentary and personability.

mhafner,
I wanted to get back to you on that paper that I read (and previously alluded to) in last October’s SMPTE journal.
It’s finally available online to all viewers, in case you don’t have an SMPTE subscription. As I mentioned weeks before, it’s not easy to make a connection with this paper and typical telecine transfers or scans because the topic is concerning camera filter systems.
You may find it interesting reading anyhow, as I know you’re a camera buff.
B.T.W., buried in the article is some data that supports the contention that capture with a 4k camera looks 1- 2 JND’s better than a 2k camera when viewed on a 2k display, which I’ll assume will bring a smile to your face. (But it better not be a big smile, because this is a small margin of difference)

Anyway, here it is for your leisure reading ………

I’ll answer my own question.
Yes, they did run the clip at the beginning of the U.S. broadcast (I’ve only watched 15min. of the actual match so far, so nobody say nuthin about the soccer play itself ).

It seems that even if one tunes into something as specialized as the Euro Cup broadcasted live in the U.S. on a sports channel (i.e. ESPN2 HD), one gets *exposed* (at least indirectly) to Blu-ray content in some form or fashion.

Works for me.

A couple of the mods here asked me to comment specifically in the Patton thread.
I only skimmed some posts on the last page of the thread and here are my thoughts…..

Hopefully Spain can shake off the 'chokers' tag and win a tournament. Maybe England will learn from that, howerver unlikely it seems .
Hear, hear... but I don't know, we tend to frak it in quarter finals every time...

Here's hoping, though!

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Russert 2 months ago when he came to Tampa for an event at the PBS station my wife works at. He was an absolute class act in person, and was very easy to work with (I do volunteer work there).

He truly exemplified "class" in journalism, and my wife and I will always remember his that way. Rest in Peace Mr. Russert.

Spain has been looking really good. Their strikers and mid-field looks the best I've seen in the Euro Cup this year. I wish them luck.

I finally managed to watch all of the Netherlands/France match after a discussion with a few friends whether or not Broken Trail was the best western they had seen in the last 20 years.

Wow…………..just wow. (for Broken Trail as well as the soccer match!)
The Dutch players are my new soccer heroes for this tournament.
In regards to the game, “It’s a Dutch oven and the French are toast.” – classic.

I haven’t seen Spain play yet but, if they’re as good as you claim, could a Netherlands/Spain match end up being the defining point of the Cup?

It should be an interesting next several weeks and what better way to watch the matches on a hot summer’s day than with a Blu blender…………..

Sounds great! I think I'm going to take the rest of the day off today after spending 6 hours sitting on the tarmac at LAX yesterday. It's truly an amazing experience to be on a plane where EVERYTHING seems to be malfunctioning at the same time.

I trust you enjoyed the presentation?
