I think it deserves more. It's as good as any big budget action movie that has made a few hundred million.

Too bad. Don't think we'll be getting a sequel.
I seem to recall the original was a 'failure' when it came out as well.

Although as poorly written as Tron was, it's leaps and bounds ahead of Tron Legacy.

Funniest post of the year! I suppose you think Xanadu and Wargames are screenplay classics as well right?

Well there have been some pretty bad snow storms around the US too which has probably kept some people at home as well as the economy.

Saw this on 3D IMAX. Looked fantastic, although it just reaffirmed my dislike for 3D. Sucks having to go back and forth from 2D to 3D and have that fuzziness effect. Only rarely was I wow'ed by the 3D effect ( the speech was pretty neat )

Other then that, I thought the movie was good but was surprised with the lack of action. The bikes in the beginning and than never again was disappointing because it was so intense in the beginning. I thought for sure when Quorra
[Show spoiler] was talking about the bike that was created by Flynn and it being faster than anything else out there would have played some role. At least bigger than just giving it to some bum. . .

I gave it a 4 stars but probably would have settled for 3.5. I will buy it on blu when it comes out, no questions asked. The visuals and 3D were outstanding.

Oh and almost forgot the best part of the movie... The soundtrack. I love Daft Punk but this was awesome. Great that they were also
[Show spoiler] in the movie with a great cameo

I love the soundtrack! I just downloaded from iTunes the end titles theme and listening to it on my iPad as I type this. Really cool!

For those referencing how much TRON Legacy has made, and the assumed expectations Disney had for it in terms of box office returns--- you need to consider when it was released. Typically movies released in December, especially late-December have lower box office returns.

Excluding Avatar, TRON Legacy blew away previous opening weekend box office totals over the last 4-5 years.

Considering as doctorD mentioned the weather in parts of the US recently that has probably hindered it's box office returns.

It isn't having huge % decreases from week to week, and I know several people who are hoping to see it this week/weekend now that Christmas is over.

You couldnt be more wrong the first movie turned over a great profit and will continue to do so once its re-released again and people like me buy it for the 1st time.

Hey don't get me wrong. I loved both movies.

"Tron was released on July 9, 1982, in 1,091 theaters grossing USD $4M on its opening weekend."

Can anyone adjust for inflation? Anyone?

Saw this in IMAX 3D on opening weekend, it was quite an experience. I thought the film was pretty epic, and a respectable sequel to the original. (I consider the original "Tron" a masterpiece) Solid story and screenplay, which both worked. The visuals, soundtrack, action scenes and nods to the original were the real strengths of the film.

I have to agree with you 100% . I loved the soundtrack. Mix of native 80's songs in the arcade, and daft Punks jazzed up 80's electro made the film. I too was a little disappointed that the bikes didn't get as much screen time as I hoped, especially
[Show spoiler]when Flynn's bike wasn't used to any real extent.
I would say a 3.5 IMO. Will re-watch it when it comes out on Blu. Olivia Wilde was pretty hot in it too . As for the 3D, well I was expecting a little more to be honest. Or perhaps I have just gotten use to it now . The only thing that really bugged me was the "young" looking Jeff Bridges, was trying not to laugh at him in a few shots .

It was... Combined with the disasterous animation in the early 80's and The Black Hole, the studio almost went under. That is how the Katzenburg/Eisner reign came into being at Disney when they cleaned house in the mid to late 80's.

Well compared to Tron Legacy? Yes, Wargames is a screenplay classic.

There's no excuse for Xanadu... It should have never happened.

Nobody....NOBODY...makes lame pointless cliche'd drive-by slacker 80's-bashes at Xanadu in my neighborhood, whether it had anything to do with the conversation or not.

But, since the poster has mired itself in it now, does serve as a historical-revisionism illustration of how yesterday's lame jokes (like the first Tron) can become the next generation's misunderstood cult treasure.
If only the stage musical could have served the original Xanadu as well as Disney sought to redeem the Tron franchise.

3/5 on this for me.

To me the whole movie fell apart when Quorra(Olivia Wilde)
[Show spoiler] rescued Sam from the cycle races,
from there the movie got long for it own good..If it was edited down about 30 min or so it would have been much more enjoyable..

I took my dad to see this the other day. I remember I was 7 when he went to see the original and I did not want to go because I thought it was "scary." LOL

First off, he did not know it was 3D and even with his senior discount, it was $8.25. He did not even see Avatar in 3D. That being said, if I had the option for 2D, I would of not shelled out the $9.25 for a matinee.

The 3D was again, disappointing. The light cycle scene had some OK stuff, but certainly not worth the cost. My dad did not care for it at all as he thinks the glasses darken the picture too much.

The actions sequences were great, but certainly not enough of them. Only one lightcycle scene? As another posted mentioned I was hoping for more
[Show spoiler]of Flynn's vintage cycle.

I also felt we were never made to know how powerful Flynn was until the climax. For being the creator and held in such esteem, we should of been given more demonstation of his power.

I was sorely disappointed at the treatment of
[Show spoiler]Tron
. I don't mind that he was made
[Show spoiler]serving CLU.
However, he had such a minor role and
[Show spoiler]his redemption
could of been bigger and better.

The soundtrack was killer. I enjoyed it a lot. It was modern and had a nice retro feel to it at the same time. I loved it.

Overall, I gave it a 3. It was OK, but fell short of the epicness it could of had. Maybe they ran out of budget or maybe it was due to a first time director.

I won't be buying it unless its packaged in some sort of 2 movie pack with Tron like Fantasia was.

Saw Legacy with my brother yesterday. While he is far from a techie or sci-fi nut he was blown away. Then I sat down to watch TRON with him (lent him my DVD) and he said it was an insult in comparison.

Some people just don't appreciate how technology affects the grid.
