I gave a 3/5. Obviously, the film was very visually striking, and I did like the supporting characters: Quorra, Clu, Castor, Gem, etc.

I was a bit disappointed that the movie presented an undercooked story while simultaneously poising itself for a sequel
[Show spoiler] (Tron presumably lives on, big movie star Cillian Murphy plays young Dillinger, etc.).

I enjoyed the story most when we see glimpses of the adventuresome, hipster Flynn from the original movie. However,
[Show spoiler] the dead wife, son, abandonment, surrogate-Frankenstein meta-narrative just felt somewhat shoe-horned into that character's life (the ton of exposition at the top of the film instantly had me worried), and the sheer lack of characterization from Tron himself seemed a missed opportunity. In fact, I almost felt that the Sam character kinda stood in the way of what could have been a more interesting power struggle between the established characters.

I guess I just wish the filmmakers had tightened up the story elements and some of the action stuff before attempting to tease the prospect of a sequel--something the first film avoided.

Just got done watching the new movie, and I liked it. Rated it 4 out of 5 for the poll, as it had excellent shots, style, and acting. Only real complaints would be that the story slowed down at points, and that I wasn't able to see the original Tron before seeing the new one. I'll buy this movie when the price gets to $10ish. Recommended!

A question for anyone that can answer -

What is up with
[Show spoiler]Zeus? Is he a cameo to the first movie somehow? His character just seemed out of place like he at one time was in fact an '80's bad guy.

Film was a 3/5 for me. Closer to 2.5/5 than 3.5.

The special effects and costume design i found to be really good. Except the tech used to create a young Jeff Bridges wasnt quite there. It was fine for CLU but it didnt work in the real world flash backs.

Film dragged alot in the middle. The story never felt epic or had much emotion in it, flynns speech to CLU was about as good as it got. I did like the cast though, with olivia wilde standing out.

I may be being harsh on it as i was recovering from Flu when i watched it. I will rewatch it on Blu-ray when it comes out.

To me it didnt look realistic enough to pass as a real life young flynn. As CLU in the Grid though i could let it pass as he was not actually human.

Most importantly though (imho) is the performance. Which I thought was fantastic.

I liked it overall but
[Show spoiler]how does Olivia Wilde become a real person in the real world? Isn't she a program or something? Are you telling me if Clu and those other programs made it to the portal, they'd all pop up out of nowhere in the real world?

I liked it, generally. A little weak on story, but I wasn't expecting Inception.

One thing that bugged me was
[Show spoiler]they mention Flynn's Light Cycle, about how it's the fastest thing on the Grid, yada yada, and we see it for ten seconds riding in a straight line and then he freakin' gives it away. How do you introduce something as being the most bad ass of its kind and then do NOTHING with it?

So now that Tron Legacy is projected to finish its North American run with about $160-170 million and it's already bagged another $110 million internationally thus far... Can people please stop incorrectly identifying the film as a flop and a disappointment? Between domestic, international, DVD/Blu-ray and other ancillary dollars (not to mention merchandising), Tron Legacy will almost certainly be a bigger money-maker for Disney this year than Tangled (and that movie is considered a hit).

Certainly the numbers are strong enough for Disney to be happy about sequels.

Agreed. I think this was just a nod to the first movie more than anything. Too bad they didn't do anything more with it.

I hope there is a sequel. It was very well acted and had a great theme/style. I would pay for a ticket for Tron III.

And personally, even with all the big money involved, I don't think it was a flop. They are marketing the crap out of this movie, and Disney is very good about making $.

I didn't think his screentime would be so little. He seemed to be very important, then all the sudden.....
[Show spoiler]blamo!
. I actually didn't mind how weird his David Bowie circa early 60's/70's gender-bender character vibe was. Very retro and odd.

Yeah, I just couldn't understand all the "Thank God there won't be a sequel, now that the movie has flopped..." nonsense. $160-170 million is a very respectable dom number (it'll just miss the top 10 of the year by one or two slots). Even 'disappointments' like Prince of Persia, Narnia, and Sorcerer's Apprentice were nicely profitable. In fact, the only genuine flops I can name off the top of my head are How Do You Know, Jonah Hex and Scott Pilgrim.

Trust me... Disney is going to have a film that ends up near or above $300 worldwide and they're pleased about that. Would they have like more? Sure, what studio wouldn't? But they're not about to banish any and all Tron projects/plans simply because they only "doubled" the budget at the box office.

Anyone want to buy the TRON 2 Disc Collectors Edition off me? It's out of print.

I'd sell it cheap. Lowest on amazon is $70. I'd sell for $30 shipped.

OR

I'd trade even for EWOKS Adventure: Caravan of Courage/Battle of Endor. It too is out if print but goes for $20 on Amazon. And I REALLY want it!!

Just saw it again tonight. I went to the midnight release show, but that was also my last day of finals so I was exhausted and kept nodding off. I missed a lot, haha. I liked it, gave it 4 stars and if they release a 2 pack on blu-ray, I'll get that closer to release date than normal.
