Yeah, I CAN'T BELIEVE that they won't give us LOLITA or LYNDON right now, all we've got is 2001, FULL METAL JACKET, THE SHINING, PATHS OF GLORY, EYES WIDE SHUT, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, etc.

Hey, those are coming. Now we just need The Killing, Killer's Kiss and a good release of Spartacus

No, I know, that was part of the joke... Hence the "right now"

Blasphemy, I know, but I'm not sure I _need_ K and KK on BD. Sad, but true... Now, the lost films being released, that'd be pretty cool (even though they're no doubt not very good)

Sith, GabrielB…..your guess(es) and thoughts in this area are as good as mine. I’m not a creative or development executive.

Well, where the heck have you been? Long time no hear. I was beginning to think you went back to living underwater and such for several month deployments.

Meanwhile, had an awful time tonight reviewing a film that everyone has (or should have) seen. Not sure it says anything interesting, but here you go:

Nice write-up.

I don’t know if you’ve watched the show but, in the new TV series Hawaii Five-O, one of the main characters (Danno) has the ringtone for his ex-wife being the infamous sound effect from Psycho.

Cheers, thanks for the complement

heh, my ringtone is the theme of Shakey Pictures (downloadable as a link via BD-Live from the Neil Young Archives).

Almost as spooky.

I write as I'm testing my new SVS sub to see how it integrates with the system. Blaring the DVD-Audio of "Prophet Song" by Queen, and I'm sure my neighbours are enjoying that fact...

Speaking of creepy, off to see SALO tonight, presented by John Waters. Let that image set in for a bit...

Well, I really like The Killing, so I'd like to see that one on Blu. Killer's Kiss is personally Kubrick's worst movie, though it's still very good. Still, it's pretty sure they're coming, since I can't believe Criterion would only make a deal with MGM on Paths of Glory, and forget the other two Kubrick movies. And whether they're coming or not, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of PoG when it arrives
And since I've never seen his 'lost' movies, those should be very interesting to see as well.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm a Blu-ray Guru now. My mother would be so proud
[Show spoiler]if only she cared about Blu-ray, and internet forums in general

Unfortunately, they deleted it.

In essence, "Milt99" described the typical AVS forum reaction in a series of steps - it was quite funny (and true!).

Well, all forums have some ‘bad apples’….so to speak.

AVS has some good knowledgeable people …. if memory serves from my old posting days there, names like Chris Whiggles, Mr. D, etc. come to mind as well as co-habitants/posters on this forum and AVS like for instance Stacey Spears, Kris Deering, neo reloaded, etc.

It’s just that thru their compulsive tenacity, the ‘bad apples’ tend to provide so much prolific 'noise' that it drowns out all the good informative postings.

In regards to the post I made on the last page concerning The Karate Kid (2010), I received several PMs essentially asking me if/how can I reconcile the information which I provided….with that of the master format as listed in the Technical specs for this motion picture on the IMDB website.

Quite simply, my answer is that the IMDB Tech specs apparently are not completely accurate.

I think you have good taste.

Some classical folks are even of the opinion that, in fact, it is so good, that it was worthwhile to back up their convictions with $$ and purchase the domestic rights to the flick.

^

What that means is….not settling for inferior 2K proxies to work with during the filmmaking process. So, not just 4K scanning, but also, subsequently working completely within the 4K realm (whether it be filmmaking or, for that matter, restoration) ultimately affects and results in a more precise appearance for everything else downstream, i.e. the HD masters, and even the Blu-rays.

You see, color grading isn’t just adding ‘color’ to thee original capture, it also involves a host of other digital tools, such as defocus, grain/noise reduction and sharpening .
