Job well done!!!
Huh, wha?

Yeah, it's crappy that it's $25 on AZN.ca, and $13 at .com. Go figure.

And let's all take a moment once again to make fun of Dennis for skipping the 4K - I even saved him a seat! (not really... )

Here's this week's blu-ray thread in the off-topic section of the gaming forum I spend most of my time at:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=426402

Seems split between excitement for Tron and Taxi Driver, with a side of arguing over A.I. A surprisingly even split; considering it's primarily a video game forum, one would think the two Tron releases would drown everything else out (granted, Tron Legacy was pretty divisive on neogaf).

I expect nothing short of perfection from that 1962 feature film that's been mentioned a couple of times in this forum.
Agreed 100%

Fantastic presentation and excellent design for the case/book/package Whoever designed it, did an amazing job.

Ok- time for me to join the chorus. I spun up my Taxi Driver disc last night and couldn't be more pleased. What a fantastic feeling to see some of my favorite cinematography of all time so lovingly treated and beautifully presented! Thanks to all responsible for this stunning release.

Just returned from NAB, where I might immodestly say that the ‘hit’ of the show was the F65 –
matched with those spiffy SR Memory Cards, which you slide in its rear end…..to record on, of course.

which, as I mentioned before NAB (https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4516806) would only mildly compress the native data rate to 4:1 which seemed perfectly acceptable to androvsky and Bobby Henderson…as well as the camera connoisseurs at NAB.

Giving out that sort of specific information to you fellas is frowned upon by my colleagues because once *word gets out* it has a tendency to make it more difficult regarding things like crowd control, etc. All I’m at liberty to say is….very soon.

Now, if you were to tell me that you were interested in playing a small role in the movie, I would say that you should have gotten your butt up to NYC this past week and met with Sarah (i.e. see the tweet about Fiona’s Tale) - http://twitter.com/SaraConte

Hey Penton

Speaking of NAB what was the reaction to the new Final Cut? Did you get to see it? I've watched the keynote a few times and it does look brilliant, just wonder where the rest of the Apps (Motion, DVD studio Pro etc) are....

No, I didn’t. My only time spent with that sort of thing was to see how the sales support engineers were presenting the important fact that there was native file support for the SR Memory card files built into the Final Cut and Avid editorial systems (with plug-ins).

So, in essence, the SR data file can be worked natively , without a transcode with editorial systems like Final Cut and Avid, or, for that matter, high-end products from Filmlight and Blackmagic used in some DI suites.

As far as keynotes go, I found Douglas Trumbull’s address at the Digital Cinema Summit to be most sobering and honest regarding all the recent celebrity internet hype regarding higher frame rates for all motion pictures and I guess you could say that he is the grandfather of that sort of thing (scroll down to DCS 2011 keynote, which I think is the third one down on the menu)….http://www.nabshow.com/2011/newsroom...erview_KEY.asp

Afterwards, several cinematographers discussed with me their cold or even frigid feelings for higher frame rate acquisition for dramatic motion pictures (in 2D), as I first alluded to here in this past post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4565520

in which ^ I see I failed to mention the venue of the 24 vs. 48 fps demo (for 2D) which I personally viewed and, for the record, was at the 2010 Cine Gear Expo and was presented by Arri. Anyway, I was reminded by a colleague in Vegas that a similar previous audience response to higher frame rate acquisition occurred during a presentation at Sundance and was alerted to this video clip by another well-respected filmmaker,Stu Maschwitz –

Regarding this past post from 4/3/2011…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4570702
Turns out, 11 days later (while I was attending NAB), Doremi issued this press release- http://www.dcinematoday.com/dc/pr.aspx?newsID=2297 (< i.e. "The process of achieving such a high frame rate for the 3D content was overcome by utilizing two (2) synchronized V1HD-2K™ Doremi servers to play back the left and right eye respectively.")

As I mentioned on 4/3, it ^ would require two synched servers to do that demo.

I’ll give Jim one thing, he certainly has a *creative way* of downplaying the additional cost of another digital cinema server and its installation to theater owners by expressing the implementation as “only slight software modifications”.

Snippets of comments and behind-the-scenes F65 footage shot by Curtis Clark, Cinematographer and Chairman of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Technology Committee, who b.t.w. also spearheaded this previous digital camera vs. film camera assessment study back in ‘09 -
http://www.theasc.com/news/News_Articles/News_218.php - which essentially found all, and I mean all, digital acquisition/post (at that time) in need of improvement in order to equal the picture quality of film camera acquisition.

Seems that challenge has been achieved (and possibly surpassed ) with the F65 –

Cameron downplaying the cost to others to see his vision come to past? Colour me shocked...

Yeah, that F65 beastie sure does look purdy, thanks for the links. Amusing to think of this tech trickling down to SLRs in the not-to-distant future.
