I don’t communicate with Amazon. The marketing/publicity guys/gals do. However, if things stay on schedule in the Blu-ray release queue (and I foresee no reason why they shouldn’t), if you are still receiving such e-mails during the month of October and you r nerves have reached the snapping point, or at least stretched like a guitar string, then you can always send them back a message like this…..

I told one of the Marketing guys that the internet anticipatory anxiety over The Guns of Navarone was reaching a fever pitch……so, voilà.

P.S.
Since I posted a ‘Tube of the Day on another thread here, hear this, I’ll post the appropriate Sound of the Day

You think this was 'fever pitch'...wait until LoA gets close!
Although I've got to be honest, I really like the texture of my SE dvd! Feels like I'm holding a book wrapped in canvas every time I pick it up.

What average bitrate will the highest quality Ultraviolet version of a Blu-ray title be at, or be capable of? What will the maximum file sizes of titles generally be? Will the best quality Ultraviolet version of a title be lower quality or lower bitrate than the physical Blu-ray version of it?

Ultraviolet may not even offer hd initially. There is no way it could be comparable to bluray. They are not likely to offer 18-30 mbps bitrates with our current infastructure. They will in my opinion be horribly compressed versions that i woul not offend my tv with. I will just stick to my blurays. Great picture, great sound, great case, great extras, great smell, great packaging, great size and great on my walls.

Interesting….good to see at least two people (Blu Titan , rickah88 ) on this forum appreciate my efforts in regards to more forthcoming quick publicity on The Guns of Navarone. I’ll keep that in mind in regards to future inquiries about other SPE upcoming Blu-ray titles which retailers haven’t listed exact street dates on their pre-order pages.

You know 4K2K, as I’m not involved with this UltraViolet initiative, I’m hesitant to reveal technical specifics, which, to my knowledge, have not been released as of yet to the general public….not to mention the fact that the UltraViolet specs are about 1,200 pages long and I have better things to do with my free time rather than read such things.

Just wait for an official spokesperson like Mitch to give another interview or speak at another formal event, like this Caltech/MIT Enterprise forum at Caltech back in Jan. - http://caltech.keshande.com/201101/
(Mitch comes on at about the 11 min. mark)

or, wait for the consumer launch - which should be by Q4.

IMO, The only important question I have about the UltraViolet feature available on future Blu-ray discs is if it will be mandatory to subscribe to just to play the movie/feature I purchase for my collection that is encoded on the disc.

I, for one, would be very grateful!
Speaking of which can you confirm(not sure if you've done so already) Bad Boys 2 for 9/27? I had not seen that movie in years then saw it on one of the HD channels yesterday...looks pretty good!

p.s. Ditto for Stripes & Higher Learning...both of which I've seen on HD movie channels!(There fanboy quota filled for the day!)

Paul, the more i have read about this the more unlikely it seems. If they did that they would be forcing bluray collectors into streaming. They cannot afford to get our backs up this soon.

Kinda like Congress and the Health Care Bill last year!

Your efforts to get classic releases out are always appreciated.

While not a classic in the least (but pleasant enough) I'm still waiting on Fools Rush In starring this lovely señora:

Penton Man, i have watched the video you linked in it its entirety and not once did i hear the word 'quality'. I heard portability, convenience, options and ohhh........convenience, but no mention of quality. Why don't they just come out and tell us what the bit rates are going to be!!!

How could they make it mandatory? Not all Blu-ray players are internet connected; if they're releasing a blu-ray title complete with logo, it's kinda gotta work with all players, at least for the main feature. The worst they could do is make life annoying for you if you're on a BD-Live player and you don't want to sign up. It's even supposed to work with DVDs.

I suspect the upper limit for bitrates will be limited by what every decoder can handle for HD, so probably 40Mbps. To cut down on download times and save disk space, they'll probably be less than that, and I'm sure it'll vary from title to title just like with Blu-rays. Of course, the easiest way to provide the HD copy would be to simply reuse the blu-ray encode for titles using AVC...

If it helps any, it looks like they allow for lossless compressed audio.
http://uvdemystified.com/uvfaq.html#3.2.4

If I understand it right, in the near-term, after you make your Ultraviolet account you can link it to existing services. Maybe VUDU will deliver higher-quality copies than PSN; it depends on who is doing the encoding. If it's the studios, expect to see the blu-ray encode again; if it's the download providers, expect similar quality to what they've been delivering.

I thought Blu-ray could handle at least 40 Mbps - and that's just for video (not audio, subtitles etc.), and since 3D came along that went up to around 60?

Whoops, you're right. I was going off my foggy memory, and I skimmed wikipedia just a little too fast to confirm it... fixing.
