C’mon Stee, that is an unfair comment
![]() You’ll thank someone for replying to you with their opinion and add a little flattery to encourage further debate on the issue in an attempt (some would say insincere) to show how ‘open-minded’ you are….all the while, long-term readers of this forum believe your feelings on this topic are truly quite entrenched and irreversible. That’s the crux of the matter. Let me give you a little reality check. You can’t ‘change’ anything. You can’t successfully recruit followers on Blu-ray.com to join in a mission to change or delay a new industry business model…you simply don’t have the power. All the movie studios feel that Blu-ray just has not been able to replace the decline in home entertainment revenue over the years, so, there will be a big push to more aggressively explore digital delivery in the future. You’re going to see news article after news article announcing how a studio will tap into this potential revenue source by making (or at least trying to make) digital movie consumption less complex to consumers….even probably bringing Facebook into the picture, eventually. So, get used to it. |

I wonder how they are going to feel when they find out, even if they have the latest generation DLP projector, that despite Jim C. claiming at the conference I attended last week, all that will be needed is a “ firmware upgrade to the projector” to exhibit the next Avatar movie at a higher frame rate like 60fps, that, in reality, they will actually have to get another server, or more likely an Internal Media Block to output these higher frame rates. |

How are those Oakeley's? I'd love it if there was standardization, so I could wear my own pair to RealD, IMAX, home projection, etc.

Heck, these are the people that thought they played a role in determining the victor in the HD disc war!

![]() Techincally, aren't we all, to some extent, keyboard warriors? More importantly, what happens when keyboards go obsolete? What will be the new saying? Ya know, I think I'm going to worry about that from here on out! |

keyboards obsolete? as likely as physical media. Don't get me wrong they uld be completely different from what they are now. But what else is there for making posts, writing? most young people today can't do it, voice? there is an other joke. If anything keyboards are more prevalent today then they ever were.

I'm not going to get into the whole debate here, but it seems to me that if someone wants to go crusading for a cause, this is not the thread for it. If you want a soapbox to sound off on, get yourself a blog and kindly leave the Insider Discussion threads alone.
--- Back on topic (sort of): Penton-Man, any thoughts on what sort of tech we'll be seeing pushed in home displays (OLED, 3D, 2K resolution, something else?) in the near future (i.e. 2 years or so)? I know Sony's been pushing 3D pretty hard the last couple of years, but the box office returns on 3D seem pretty disappointing, and home consumers seem equally indifferent. Even 1080p seems to be a harder sell than expected; I took a brief glance around to a recent visit to my local Best Buy and saw a LOT of 720p models. This didn't surprise me so much as it disappointed me. 3D was barely even visible at all, and I had to really look to find the OLED units. Has there been some sort of fundamental shift in philosophy from the consumer display manufacturers about new features potentially scaring off buyers or something? It seems to me like all of the fantastic tech that the early adopters have been using for the past several years since Blu-ray was introduced has sort of faded into the background. Or is my experience merely anecdotal? (In the interests of fair disclosure, I have a 1080 3DTV so I'm not just throwing peanuts at the tech from the peanut gallery) Last edited by Icemage; 09-29-2011 at 01:44 PM. |

Approx how long before we might see players for this? Also, with broadcasts next year of SHV (3.75x 4K) at 60 fps (though not to consumer displays) and SHV at 120 fps in around 2020 - in Japan at least, and the new Hobbit/Avatar film specs, will these be compatible with the new formats? Will it use a new HDMI standard or use something other than HDMI? Last edited by 4K2K; 09-29-2011 at 02:21 PM. |

![]() No timetable but, on the roadmap – pursuit of glasses-free 3D TV vis-a-vie three approaches: 4k LCD panels, 2k LCD panels and comparatively smaller 2k OLED panels. I’m not at liberty to make any specific forward-looking pronouncements about 4k in and of itself. Reminds me. Attention PeterTHX – this is mostly about 2D, the registration fee is very reasonable, it’s on a Saturday and there’s a speaker from THX, so it should meet all your criteria for something doable and worthwhile. Act fast as you’ve only got one day left to sign up. Be there or be square…. http://www.hpaonline.com/mc/page.do?sitePageId=129261 |
