Speaking of DirecTV... they're already working on a topic I know you've been discussing: DirecTV planning for Ultra HDTV

You beat me to the punch, Alan. Let's see I've bee a subscriber with DirecTV since....the 16bit boxes!
DirecTV also has another nice little advantage called: The NFL Sunday Ticket! I was amazed by the PS3 stream of the Ticket, of course after the bugs were worked out following the first couple weeks.
I'm just wondering how many will move on from DirecTV when the Sunday Ticket expires 3 NFL seasons from now?

I'll have to check it out when I'm not at work.

Personally, I'm just glad that they're trying to actively prevent dog-collar-wearing grandchildren....

I've been with them since 1995.

I'm not a sports fan myself, so ST doesn't concern me... though I do wonder how much longer I can justify the costs associated with pay-TV.

I don't know if it would really change stuff. But man do people need to be educated. Just look at some of the posts in the thread that Paul linked to see that even many people that watch BDs don't get how good we have it (or in the 4k threads how much better it could be)

Hey, DenonCI, with respect to children rather than grandchildren, I sure hope, for your sake that you’ve had DIRECTV for the past ten years or so.

Well, I do my best as I commonly delve into the teaching thing on the 4K threads, like for instance, just yesterday….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ve#post5935520

and today, at your implied request, on the 1080p Blu-ray thread…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...37#post5944837

I don't think it will really 'change stuff' much but, if you can reach one unbiased, open-minded person, then I think the effort may be worth it.

No Direct TV here. I've been with Comcast for longer than I care to admit. Frankly, it's the best service/picture in my area, plus my Internet speed is blazing fast

That being said, I hope my grand kids don't end up wearing dog collars.

agree, not only that, I think that pointing out the facts is important. You constantly see it. Everyone says X so X must be true (even if it is obviously wrong), so I find it is important to point out X is wrong (when it is) hopefully before it becomes a de facto Fact and everyone starts believing it to be true.

Some awesome and stunning release announcements appearing this week!

And... in light of certain Richter-pinging rumbles, I know I don't need to remind P-Man of any promises made about from where we will "hear it first"...

Not following. Give me a moment to skim the News section here and/or check my PMs as I've apparently been wasting my time teaching on another thread.

This morning I did receive a couple of PMs from Blu-ray.com members hailing from Norway in regards to some website leak over the internet about the Lawrence of Arabia Blu-ray for that Scandinavian country. B.T.W., Iceman, where's my coffee book on the reindeer people? Heck, I'll be dead in the ground before I see that in the mail.

Anyway, if Google is accurately translating the link written in Norwegian? that which was PMed to me, then the information is actually incorrect for, as of today, March 22, 2012, SPHE has not yet scheduled the final Norwegian release date for LoA on Blu-ray. I’m not really sure how an outside independent entity can confirm a street date for which the content provider itself hasn’t even made up its mind on yet.

Meanwhile... is it overly cynical of me to air my skepticism about the possibility of the relevant Showscan footage having any role whatsoever in the upcoming Brainstorm release?

Doc, I don’t know anything about that Blu-ray title. Why should I? However, if I happen to see Douglas Turnbull at NAB 2012 in a few weeks, I’ll be sure to storm his brain for any information.

Regarding NAB, (for those professionals who regularly read this thread) and are attending the upcoming show, please note that Caleb Deschanel, ASC will make a rare appearance as a speaker on April 16 at 1:30 PM in a Creative Master Series session. He will share the stage with production designer Jim Bissell and VFV Supervisor Scott Farrar in talking about how digital technologies have transformed the art and craft of filmmaking. The panel is entitled: "The Brave New World of Filmmaking with Digital Technologies".

I say, the “New World” has Arrived and it's very good , check out those pretty colored curves under the heading ‘Extended Color Gamut’ in comparison to film….http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/f..._CameraPDF.pdf

And for latitude, check out the detail through the windows in the sun-lit exterior, as normally in the olden days of early digital cameras, that would have looked like a fog bank thru those windows .

Doc, nice T-shirt http://froknowsphoto.bigcartel.com/p...ot-raw-t-shirt

Nor do I. I just try (and sometimes fail) not to let my perspective on the past over-inform my expectations for the future.

Cool- thanks!

And, if the spirit moves you, give him a great big smack on the lips for me, for Blade Runner.

DON'T get him started on UFOs...

Plus, it's a great theatre, we love it, but this is a bit nuts: http://filmfest.ca/2010/12/10/dougla...tiff-lightbox/

DON'T ask him questions about his now-more-famous daughter.

No, do. He might enjoy it...

Finally watched the ad, looks like what they're really trying to prevent is daughters building time machines to pick up "undesirables" in 1985. I say let her if you can borrow it when she's done.
