This is true. If Sony were looking at how fast TT's titles had sold out and were using it as a barometer, then wouldn't it make more sense for them to put out any of the OOP titles? There are still plenty of copies of both AGAIG and The Blue Lagoon in stock...

Looks like I'll have to amend my previous post. Christine's sellout will still be less than a day, but the hours will be wrong.

I believe this movie is just, if not more popular then Fright Night, so demand will be as high if not higher.

I did get two copies of Fright Night, one is signed which I got free. And I'm keeping both.
I wonder if anyone else on this board has two copies.
I do, I have my extra in my trade thread.

A bit off-topic: Why do people in this thread and others complain about Sony abandoning Blu-ray and not releasing catalog titles?

I consider "catalog" anything that's finished its theatrical run, and Sony has been releasing "catalog." They tend to release recent titles, though, because those are more likely to sell -- to people who've recently seen it in a theater and liked it enough to want it at home, to people who wanted to see it but missed the theatrical release, and to people who rarely, if ever, go to theaters.

In studio terminology those are not "catalog" titles, but rather "new release" titles. Most studios have wholly separate divisions within their home video departments to handle each type.

I did the shopping cart technique and saw less than 100 left, so I was thinking "Jesus Christ, I better order one now!" Got it ordered and everything, and thought "wait a minute, I just ordered Christine, not The Fury."

So I'm most definitely in the minority of those who got a copy ordered, but I don't even want the movie. I just got so caught up in the fervor of them selling like hot cakes, I totally forgot that I went there to order The Fury.

I'm starting to think I'm losing my mind, haha.

Finally gone in about 6 1/2 to 7 hours, allowing for the site outage.

Christine is almost certainly fated now to become as expensive as Fright Night on the secondary market. I almost regret not picking up a second copy to keep sealed.

I am getting worried about The Blob, Screen Archives needs to put a much smaller per-order limit on it from the beginning of the pre-order. It's still going to sell out well before the release date, but would give more fans a crack at buying it for themselves at the listed retail price. As it stands now, speculators are still getting too many copies for these super-hot titles.

Really?

Are people ordering over the 2 disc limit?

Or were there really that many failed orders during the outage which artificially dropped the count?

With Sony starting to schedule some of their titles for non-US release (The Blue Lagoon, As Good As It Gets), so if those are region free I can see Christine following sooner rather than later.
I wouldn't hold my breath on those being region free. More likely than not they're going to be locked.

The e-mail that Screen Archives normally sends out concerning new releases was just sent out, stating that there were 500 copies of Christine left. This was AFTER it sold out for the second time.

Man, I just can't imagine The Blob being that big of a seller. Fright Night, Notld, and Christine all had remakes, franchises, and fan favorite creative talent behind them. In my head I don't lump that movie in with the rest in terms of potential demand (considering films like the fury and enemy mine aren't selling out quickly)

I like how I get an e-mail about these pre-orders now and it says 500 copies left for Christine

I can't see buying the 1988 version of THE BLOB for anything other than to run it as a double feature with the 1958 original. Luckily, Criterion will be coming out with the 1958 version on Blu-ray next month, which may well boost Twilight Time's sales of the remake. If that doesn't happen to sell out in its first couple of days, I will probably order it, as I do plan to get Criterion's edition of the 1958 version, which is more interesting for various reasons on a variety of levels.

Same here. I'm excited for the original, but the remake didn't hold my attention at all. I'd like it as a companion piece, but not for $30.

I'm all over The Blob '88 - but don't anticipate it selling out as quickly as Christine, if at all.
