If the "Egyptian" sold out so quickly, and the reason being might be because it was never released on DVD. Then "Crime and Punishment" starring Peter Lorre might have the same results (which is an excellent film noir by the way) because that film never had an American DVD release either. I believe Spain is the only country to release that film in that format which is now OOP. That film was released by Columbia (and I believe Sony owns them) so Twilight Time could of access to the rights to get "Crime and Punishment" a Bluray release.

I wouldn't say "quickly". It took slightly under two years for it to sell out. Or a little over two years, if you want to include both the BD and the DVD editions. If anything is impressive about its sales, it's that it sold 6000 copies in total in that +/- two years.

Well I paid twice that much from ebay and it didn't even come with a magnet. I was intrigued by it being the first TT release, being a high budget movie with an excellent transfer, a (reportedly) great commentary track, and the history behind it (not being on DVD, the book, the making of the movie, etc). I watched it and considered it below average for a spectacle movie. Too bad it didn't have Brando, Douglas or another big name in the male lead. Peter Ustinov didn't have what it took to play it and it showed. But I did enjoy Simmons and Tierney quite a bit, and the lavish sets and costumes of course.

Obviously there was a lot of pent-up demand for the movie. Was the DVD selling for $29.95?

Who said it sold out quickly, it took almost the full 3 years to sellout.

Only two.

Both the BD and DVD were up for pre-orders on 2011 06 16, and released on 2011 07 12. The BD went OOP on 2013 04 25 (just under two years), and the DVD went OOP on 2013 09 13 (just over two years).

My bad, I was under the impression that it sold out quickly but it still sold out nonetheless and that's my case, that Crime and Punishment has the potential to sell out too and therefore Twilight Time should release it on bluray

I had never heard of the The Egyptian, but I saw this site's promo piece (https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6811) which was just amazingly detailed. The review was positive too and it's a genre I enjoy. So when the numbers were running low, I finally caved and bought a copy. It's still sitting on my shelf in cellophane though, having come up among the choices for a night's viewing many times, but never actually getting picked.

It's not just a question of whether it should be released, or whether it's available for release, but whether the elements are in good enough shape that it can be released without significant restoration.

Your best bet in your efforts to get it released on Blu-ray is to convince Grover Crisp at Sony that it needs releasing (with or without restoration).

Eh, I wouldn't say it sold out "so quickly". Courtesy of ROclockCK:

Regarding THE EGYPTIAN, it does have something of a moderate cult following for its historical and/or religious aspects. I had seen it on TV in a pan-and-scan version, and maybe once or twice letterboxed, and knew in advance it had its moments but often suffered from slow pacing and wooden acting despite its spectacular art design and interesting themes. It was the first Twilight Time disc I ever bought, although sadly I was too late to get the magnet (though have since gotten nine other TT movie magnets plus a few for SAE's soundtrack CDs). I was primarily swayed to spend the price by the glowing reviews of the HD picture transfer with its original aspect ratio and stereo soundtrack, not to mention the commentary. But besides having a general interest in ancient Egypt, I simply HAD to buy the Blu-ray of THE EGYPTIAN so I could see it in HD in my home theatre setting (also a great place to watch various versions of THE MUMMY, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, et al.)...

DVD was 19.95, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever it was, it was cheaper.

What was also impressive about The Egyptian selling out is that there are Blu-ray editions available in other countries...although the Twilight Time's transfer beats them all.

Looks like Twilight Time changed their cover for The Twilight Samurai.
