I watched the HDR / HLG video on my 1080p SDR computer monitor and observed that the colors did not look as intense on the HLG version. I wonder if that is a characteristic of HLG or they way the HLG was set up.

Now, the good news is that we will be abandoning EOTF and returning to traditional gamma curves in the not too distant future. Those methods and workflows are already undergoing closed door development and testing at several major TV, playback, and content delivery companies.
What the heck does this imply?

Insiders, please calm me down.

Probably talking about HLG. Loses a point for referring to HDR as "EOTF" which is nonsense, all means of converting an electronic signal into an optical system are an EOTF, including gamma.

DVing on a Pulsar at CO3….

And no internet whining from lazy freelance colorists allowed, because people have worked under similar viewing conditions making critical morbidity and mortality decisions commonly for 30 years or more until their retirement – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post13608677 with no adverse ocular effects.

This is for the whole chain from mastering to the end display, and everything in between.

EDIT: The good news is that it won't cause a problem with existing content or delivery infrastructure. So today's Blu-rays and streaming services will not have to be modified. It's more along the lines of how the TV interprets the luminance data and applies the gamma curve. Basically a FW update.
In other posts he implies that this will happen in 2018 and the 2017 models will also receive the FW update.

This would completely void the need for DoVi in the display, wouldn’t it.

Well, Penton-Man, this should increase the activity in this thread, if true.

Those are called agressive cyber bullies; short for rat sharks.
They think they patrol the universe and have jurisdiction on all territories.
Be extremely cautious, stay far away, they'll tear you apart just for the pleasure of leasure, and good measure. Don't try to contradict them, they know everything more than you do.
That's why the expression "swimming with the sharks" is often referred to suicidal tendencies.

* I looked for an HDR video tube, but was bitten by one while searching.
Now if you would excuse me, time for my peanut butter/jellyfish sandwich.

Three days ago, without much fanfare, Saving Private Ryan was announced that it'll sport both HDR and Dolby Vision for its upcoming 4K UHD Blu-ray. I didn't consider it being big news because it's not coming up in 3D.

http://www.thehdroom.com/bluray/savi...ounced-112212/

* I must have a dozen video copies of this flick; with DD, dts, all the various formats and packages, but none in 3D. I got the metal can too, with bullet holes.

HDR "could" be interesting, and Dolby Vision when finalized and working properly with all televisions. Of course Dolby Atmos will add to the incentive of buying again. And hopefully they don't stick with their sickness by making it exclusive to 4K.

That coud become my 13th copy of this flick, just what my doctor prescribed me recently to get rid of my addiction.

All kidding aside and so as not to confuse our budding marine biologists nor our recreational divers, although not quite the Titan of the ocean as the Great White, the shark seen swimming in that above YouTube clip is named according to the color of the header in this news release…. https://www.scenarist.com/index.php/...-ray-services/

The sad thing is we are slowing killing our sea life and apparently ourselves….

You can't put HDR or 12 bit DV on regular Blu-ray. You can only add Atmos. So... If you want all three and 4k detail, then you must get the UHD discs of Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart.
