It's obviously an error.

Vincent Teoh:
"The HDMI chipset of the Samsung 2018 QLED TV is not true HDMI 2.1, but it supports most of the features of HDMI 2.1 such as dynamic metadata (HDR10+), eARC and VRR."

Not most but as I said has been fudged to support the necessary features to support 10+ and eArc. Lots of similar fudges in the past such as 3d support in units that did not have 1.4 chipsets.

Exactly, and Vincent has said this before on Twitter and in a previous video. HDMI 2.0 devices are capable of supporting the 18Gbps features of HDMI 2.1, including dynamic HDR, as 2themax has confirmed.

Yes. The question is whether the firmware back door for x HDMI controller has been left open to apply the respective updates. Even those that can be updated may not be supported by their respective suppliers any more.

If HDMI 2.0b is what is required for dynamic HDR over HDMI, then wouldn't any HDMI 2.0b device automatically support dynamic HDR over HDMI, so long as the device has the necessary processing power and the manufacturer has decided to add support? For example, static metadata transmission over HDMI is in the HDMI 2.0a spec, and I'm not aware of any HDR capable HDMI 2.0a devices that do not support the transmission of static metadata over HDMI. Similarly, I'm not aware of any HDMI 2.0b devices that cannot transmit HLG over HDMI.

Just because it may support parts of a toolset doesn't mean it supports the whole thing. OPPO when questioned would've just said "yeah, sure!" when asked but that's not the case, we can't just expect everything to be compatible. Even if they are, they still need to be tested for compliance which won't happen overnight. The wheels, they turn slowly!

My take on Oppo's statement is that they haven't even considered adding HDR10+ until very recently, since the format received approval only a couple of weeks ago. So now they've just started investigating. The HDR10+ Alliance licensing program may not even have officially started yet (although it will sometime this month) so that might be holding things up as well. But I would be shocked if it couldn't be added to their current players.

2016, 2017, and even 2018 models before their release are already obsolete for the future. So the answer will be no. Have a good day

Just to get back to this, Samsung confirmed that their 2017 HDMI 2.0b Blu-Ray players are getting HDR10+ via firmware update: https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarc.../#677bb382421a

He left a post couple of days ago he was headed to Vegas, so Yes?
Or did he have some hot roulette numbers to stake out?

Dan, I'm not sure if you want to include Cinema on your new chart. Since Dolby Vision for cinema is actually very different than Dolby Vision for home. But if you do, I'd recommend adding the other two cinema HDR formats of EclairColor and IMAX Laser HDR.
