Is someone who has practiced shooting a thick negative from the get-go, so transitioning to HDR for him has not been a big deal….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post14559572

I don’t know that as I don’t have an Amazon/Samsung combo at home, you’d have to ask someone like ray if folks are finally getting HDR10+ with their episodic shows. So I defer to those folks.
Fair enough. It's worth reminding everyone though that EVEN IF you have an Amazon/Samsung combination, you STILL cannot show or tell that you are receiving HDR10+ because
  • The Samsung TV does not tell the user if it is in HDR10+ mode
  • The Samsung TV does not even allow the user to find out manually if it is in HDR10+ mode, no matter how hard they try
  • The Amazon app does not label HDR10+ content as "HDR10+", even though Amazon's website promises that they will

Despite these 3 things, both Samsung and Amazon continue to spread (via people like John Archer) this idea that they are streaming HDR10+, and no-one in the world can actually prove it.

Unless and until they come to their senses and fix the 3 things above, this ludicrous state of affairs will continue. Given their track record it would be a brave person who just takes it all at face value and yes "I know I am seeing HDR10+".

I will say though that I agree with you in that the lack of transparency with private demos and meetings (ex. https://twitter.com/SCENARIST_LLC/st...61616232202242 )
has not helped in promoting the HDR10+ cause.
Thankyou yes. It's totally ridiculous.

Still not one single downloadable demo in the whole world. How many dolby vision demos were freely available, two years after "launch"? I'm sure it was more than zero! My LG TV has two dolby vision demos actually built into the TV!

The new Fire TV 4K Stick is promoting Dolby Vision (HDR10+ is there, but not highlighted)

Default Frostbite & HDR

Frostbite (game engine) & HDR
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostbite_(game_engine)
https://twitter.com/kechogarcia/stat...64603633713152

Frostbite can and will target any HDR standard that makes sense.

Dolby build a custom display mapping for each panel to get the best from it, and achieve standardization of look across displays.

Game can look quite different on each HDR10 TV (i.e. a very loose interpretation of the original creative intent), due to lack of display mapping standardization across manufacturers.

To address this HDR10 issue, display mapping is done at the game level (i.e. game console or PC).

I think Waboman (in training) would drink to that…

On a more serious note, Top Gun certainly set a high bar for entertainment and it will be tough for Top Gun: Maverick to match it, but people are trying really hard to.

It’s taken three years from the time of this hue heads-up - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post10417134 , but better late than never, for Gary (Chair of the ASC’s Advanced Imaging Committee whose worked with the UHDTV Committee) for Gary to enlighten the audience of industry experts as to the Maxwell spot’s existence and significance.

Anyway, for those who don’t desire to get into the color weeds, in a nutshell, the presentation was geared toward his parametric appearance compensation for ambient surround lighting as it relates to mastering and display, be it in the cinema or at home….
HPA Tech Retreat 2018: Parametric Appearance Compensation - YouTube and as he says near the end before it’s opened up to the audience for questions….”many of these effects are very significant visually, I mean, they’re not sweep under the rug things.”

Although not in the same desert locale as Rainbow Canyon and the Panamint dry lake bed (which is definitely a good thing if you don’t enjoy watching out for stepping on rattlesnakes all the time), I’m looking forward to the 2019 HPA Tech Retreat next February.

You can hand this off over there too.
By a spokesperson from Cinelab London (http://www.cinelab.co.uk/)

“We are really lucky to be working on some projects currently that when released in 4K and HDR will be an amazing testament to the quality and durability of originating on film decades ago. They will also never have been seen by anyone in this quality as the film was only ever transferred and edited on 1” composite video in the 80’s.”

Finished on video? That's got to be some TV stuff then...and they're doing it up in 4K HDR? Classic TV in 4K HDR, I'll believe it when I see it. And streaming doesn't count, not in this dojo.
