I'm flying real high today, under a precipitous blanket of thick white powder snow.
Are you flying high too? It feels like Christmas, finally. By the way; 'The Favourite' won seven BAFTA Awards, and 'Roma' won four. Yesterday 'Cold War' won the American Society of Cinematographers Award (ASC). Amazing because it's in black and white, six different languages (foreign), and it has a 1.37:1 screen aspect ratio (old b&w 4:3 cathode ray tube TVs). We're back to the late 40s through the 50s and 60s, the great cinema years. ...Just after Charlie Chaplin and the Charleston jazz club music. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 02-11-2019 at 02:19 AM. |

To our great insiders, I know you've stated that you know why Disney is not releasing Dolby Vision encoded discs (and respect that you can't share that info). Still, in your opinion, will we see any DV discs from Disney released this year?
Respects, |

![]() Personally, I’m disappointed in the mouse house and DV home deliverables since they are one of the few facilities around the world that have had a Dolby Vision laser projector directly available for theatrical grading and so awareness to the format in general kinda all started from there. |

and in regards to those in Animation, that since John L. left to begin a new chapter in his career at Skydance that a few projects which were baking in the oven at Pixar have since been canceled

I can only imagine that will result in quite a void in Pixar’s release schedule at some future point. Wonder how story quality will change going forward?

Check out my video from yesterday's HPA "AI Applications" program. This clip is with Kenny Lauer, of Rival Theory speaking.

Here’s part 2 of Kenny Lauer of Rival Theory presentation. Very interesting discoveries and advanced uses of AI.
Unrelated, but wanted to say, I'm thoroughly enjoying and learning this week with HPA's 2019 full schedule and we start at 7:30am and go through the evening non stop. |

I won't post all of my videos. I'll just post a small selection to give everyone a taste of what's trending in Hollywood and broadcast for now and the future. It's a peak at the not so far away horizon of video and video distribution.
Here's another two more from the AI Applications session, with Jason Brahms of Video Gorillas. Part two below: |

to kick it back to the TV space for a moment, did our friend on the keyboards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjsKgtszQo0#t=4m49s have anything to say during his presentation about 8K, 3D, etc.? (not sure if he’s spoken yet as I don’t have the schedule in front of me)

As a retired artificial intelligence specialist I find the advancements made in AI quite significant.
IBM's AI loses debate to a human, but it's got worlds to conquer The tech was "surprisingly charming and human-sounding," and it's about to head out into the real world. https://www.cnet.com/news/ibms-ai-lo...COS-05-10aaa0i |

Robert, nothing from Peter P.?, I was hoping he said something about 3D for the sake of PaulGo
![]() ![]() Oh well, then how ‘bout any tidbits from Don’s presentation on ambient light? P.S. Note to motorcycle aficionados, of course not at the level of Jimmy R. (a professional stuntman and racer) on p. 420, but Don “has skills” too – a pic of him putting one of his motorcycles thru its paces at Laguna Seca raceway….
