This is something new to me. Please explain.

Because most AVRs can't pass true 4k or hdr. Avr's that advertise 4k pass through are lying, they can't. They must advertise hdcp 2.2 and hdmi 2.0a

Finally got to kick the tires on the 8500 today with an actual UHD disc. I ran one passive cable from the 8500 to my 2015 Denon, and then one from the Denon to the LG, everything went fine with the handshakes. HDR fired up as expected on the movie menu and I personally thought The Martian looked outstanding, and very dimensional in UHD/HDR. I only haad about 20 minutes today. Looking forward to getting this setup cal'd saturday.

All current Denon receivers are HDCP 2.2 compliant on all of their 7 or 8 HDMI ports

HDMI 2.0a is the key here and I do not think all 2015 D&M products have gotten that update. They may or may not work correctly. My X4200W does, it is getting sold tonight and I have a AV7702II coming in. I hope it works as reliably because running two cables from the 8500 is not what I want to do.

I think all Denon receiver models from the 710 and up all carry HDCP 2.2. I have a Denon 910 and all 8 HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2 compliant.
The link below is from the official site, and here is the highlight:
Prepared for the future, the AVR-S910W features an advanced video processing and signal handling system, including the latest HDMI 2.0a specification which provides for 4K Ultra HD full rate 60 Hz content, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling and 21:9 aspect ratio pass-through. It's also HDCP 2.2 compliant, which is a requirement for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content.

Yeah, but models like the 6200, 4200, 3200, etc... did not come with HDMI 2.0a(HDR), they have been rolled out. 6200 and 4200 got it in Feb and I think the 3200 is still waiting.

So are you saying that what I posted above is false information posted by Denon on their official site??

This is the link to the 3200...Same thing, HDMI 2.0a HDCP2.2 compliant:

Basically...yes.

Denon advertised hdmi 2.0a but when it came time for that to be utilized it turned out none them had it back in February . Denon had to scramble to send out the update but it took a couple months for most to get it.

I figured out what it was. From the get go, it was reported HDR 2.0a was on board but enabling of it would come with the DTSX update. It was clarified recently in the AVS thread the original reports were wrong, and that only the 7200 and 8802a would need the 2.0a update. So yes, all models now have it.

This had been reinforced since June that you needed the DTSX update, but once the Samsung players hit some could pass HDR 2.0a without issue, some had problems. It led folks to believe you needed the update. It was finally clarified a few weeks ago from Denon, to AVS Sales.

Not sure why it took from June 2015 to March 2016 to clarify that you did not need a FW update for all models to handle HDR 2.0a. When I purchased my X4200 in early Feb, it was in stone you would need the DTSX update in late Feb for 2.0a to work and many of us waited on that. And that the X3200 update was expected in May.

Poor comms in a new format I guess.

Your 3200 is both HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0a(HDR) good to go.

910 is OK too.

HDMI 2.0a(HDR)/HDCP 2.2 on "all" HDMI inputs, able to pass through 4k/60Hz/4:4:4 color sub-sampling (see post 7 for models with upscaling feature)

Hey guys! I have been reading alot of what you guys write and i try to keep up but i am a little bit confused. Im sorry if this has been asked before, but i have a Samsung SUHD tv with hdr and today i finnaly got the 4k player (it hasnt been released until now here in Norway), but it does not show the hdr as i seen the same clips on usb sticks in hdr 4k, it only shows 4k.. I have a hdmi 2.0 cable, some places talk about needing an 2.0a cable to get the hdr but in a statement from samsung from a half year ago they said i dont need that.. so im kind of stuck. Do you have the HDMI UHD Color setting on your TV turned on for the HDMI input you're using?
