Yeah I've seen the add on's, guess that's all there is huh? I was thinking combined, how would that add on even stay in place on top of a surround speaker? Do you use those?

If you don't want to pay for ceiling installations, then the next best option is the front and rear height locations where the speakers are mounted up near the wall/ceiling juncture and aimed at the main listening position. It's much easier fishing wires in the walls compared to the ceiling. Just be sure you use CL rated, in-wall jacketed speaker wire.

Night and day difference, even then, from upfiring speakers that only give you a simulation of Atmos.

Do you currently have speakers for the base layer (5.1 or 7.1)?

Well, I went to Best Buy last night after dinner and they had a Samsung K8500 on open box for $295. I talked them down to $270, and took it home! I was waiting for the Xbox one S, but I couldn't pass this up. I got it home and hooked it up to my 2014 Vizio P series 55" UHDTV, and ran the audio out via hdmi to my AVR. We watched the Martian as our first movie on it, and it looks amazing!

Did you set the Samsung to the basic recommended settings?

Deep Color - OFF.

Standard Video Option (can only access this when a disc is playing).

HDMI audio - Bitstream Unprocessed.

If you want front and upfiring speakers combined in just one unit, you can get this...It comes with front/upfiring speakers

I would buy new speakers. That's the first I've heard it's that much of a diff, if I did go that option would def have to run speaker wire in the wall to appease the wife

5.1.2 is plenty, if anything you can later on upgrade the other speakers (center and sides) and even the receiver, while keeping the front/atmos speakers

Yeah I was hoping to have that as a possibility in case 2 fronts were not enough, won't really know till I try it.

With Atmos and DTS: X, you need at least four overhead / height speakers since you want the audio objects to be able to move around you not just right above you.

What kind of budget were you considering?

I could prob go as high as 2K but was hoping to spend less, not sure how much the speaker install will cost tho as I would have the height and surround speaker wires routed in wall if I go that route.

Otherwise I was thinking that system Rocky put a link to and setup myself with just min speaker wire showing. I have no clue how to properly route wire in the walls

Are you located in the U.S.?

And how big is your room (dimensions)? That will help determine what might fit your needs.

We might want to take this to a PM, so as not to clutter up the thread.

A lot of soundbars come in 5.1 packages. Atmos soundbars are coming out as well...but very pricey.

I'd like to hear more on your experience with this soundbar.

Do you think this Atmos soundbar could replace a non-Atmos 5.1 set-up.

If you want a high quality Dolby Atmos and DTS: X experience (this soundbar doesn't have the latter, which is one of the competing immersive formats), you want a separates setup consisting of speakers (including overheads or heights, not enabled upfiring speaker), sub, and receiver or pre-amp.

These soundbars, especially the Atmos ones, are way overpriced for lesser audio.
