I had $300 about 2 months ago. If this had gone on sale at the price it is now then, I would have blown that on the player and some movies. But after buying movies that $300 is now $60....

Does anybody know if a Onkyo or any receiver can pass through the BD Wise?

I tried on my TX-NR757 but no luck.

It has to be connected directly from Samsung player to Samsung display. I usually leave it off.

I thought so, thanks.

I leave it off anyways but I been reading on the AVS forum and if you have it off on the TV and have it on, on the player it outputs the native resolution of the source. So blu ray will read at 1080P instead of upscaling it.

The fact that this price gouging dog was selling at $399 and after a few months is now 50% cheaper represents the status quo, however the least Samsung can do is provide a consistently functioning player. On the plus side there are no reports of exploding units or burning discs. Owners have my sympathies.

just got this player at Costco for $189 yesterday and set it up--

have some questions that I'm hoping someone can help with---

1] Is there no way at all to get an onscreen display with this player confirming that the resolution is at 2160 vs 1080p?
I popped in one 4k movie last night and was not wowed by it... I would like to be certain that I'm getting the 4k signal and resolution and am kind of freaked out that I cannot see any confirmation....

2] should I put the resolution choice in settings to 2160 or auto? I have it at auto right now...

3] is it true that the settings on your TV should go to max contrast and backlight to make the HDR picture perform at it's best?
If so, what are people doing about standard blu ray which would not look great at these settings?

I spent an hour this morning researching reviews on this player but I can't seem to find concise answers....

thanks in advance!!

is there a display mode anywhere on this player to confirm the 4k resolution?.. and should I set the output to 2160 vs auto?

and one more question-- if I set to 2160 resolution, what will happen if I play a 1080p blu ray?

I think it's just the info button. Should take you all of 10 seconds to figure out when you play a disc.
If you are watching a 4K disc, either setting will do 4K. Auto with a regular bluray will upscale, so if you want your tv to upscale, set to 1080 for regular bluray.

Regarding your question 3...your tv settings go back to regular when you watch anything other than HDR, so you don't have to flip back and forth.

Depends on your TV. I have to manually go to HDR mode in my picture settings when I watch 4K.

I have the Samsung 8000 SUHD set that I bought just recently...

when I popped in the 4k movie there was a message on the top left of the TV screen saying something to the effect of "this is an HDR disc" or something like that....

I'm at work right now so I haven't been able to further play this today....

Yeah, it says that, but you still have to switch it on with your TV.

My TV is also Samsung, and it doesn't switch over automatically. Are you sure yours does?

sigh... I'm not sure about anything so far....

watched my first 4k disc tonight-- LEGEND OF TARZAN... PQ looked pretty great... assuming it's playing correctly... though there's no way to be sure on this player since there's no on screen status menu... the info button tells you nothing in rehards to resolution, bit rate, etc....

If you hit the info button, it should have a white HDR logo show up on HDR10 encoded discs if you're not running with only the original firmware.

Are you running HDMI port 1 through a receiver or pre-amp? It must be HDCP 2.2 compliant and have HDMI 2.0a ports for HDR metadata to pass through. For best results, a receiver or pre-amp's internal video processor should be off or set to pass through with GUI overlays turned off.

Also, on the player, Deep Color must be off. 4:4:4 should be the video output. Standard user mode should be on and zeroed out, which can only be accessed by the sprocket wheel in the player's popup menu while a disc is playing.

When you're playing a 4K, on your TV settings, go:

PICTURE - 'Special Viewing Mode' and see if HDR is On or Off.
