I bought Deadpool on release and opened it tonight and christened my 4K OLED on it. Smooth sailing! Also have K8500

I tried to play 1937 The Crusaders in B&W DVD (3.7 Mbps) and this player did an awesome job...Felt like watching movie on bluray...Shadow details were stunning on Oled TV too!

Should the DVD 24Fs Conversion be set to On or leave it at OFF?

24 fps Conversion should be off. It converts everything it thinks has built-in pull-down to 24 fps. It can screw up.

24 fps output should be on Auto. That's what you want. This allows anything recorded and encoded in 24 fps (most Blu-ray's and some streaming movies) to be output to your display untouched.

I thought that is what he meant: 24fps Auto as opposed to off

There are two different 24 fps settings in the 8500. Conversion should be left off. The other one should be on auto.

Do you also leave screen format on Full or Original?

Original. Black bars will be applied as warranted by the aspect ratio of the video.

Full will squash at least 4:3 so people look fat and dumpy.

All my favorite B&W movies are 4:3...I guess I'm better off dealing with the vertical black bars than filling up entire screen

I'm sorry, I don't have this exact player. I have the Samsung - BD-J6300 - Streaming 4K Upscaling 3D Wi-Fi Built-In. I didn't see it listed.

Under Settings, it has something called DVD 24Fps Conversion that is set to OFF. I didn't know if that is good or should it be turned to ON? There is a Movie Frame setting that is listed as AUTO.
Quote:
Select Auto to convert DVD playback to 24 frames per second and output it via HDMI.
note:This option is only available when Movie Frame (24Fs) is set to on.
I'm confused about the "upscaling" part. If I buy a UHD tv later, will this player play 4K blus? Or do I need a 4k player?

Sorry for all the questions.

It will upscale content if you have a 4k TV, but a 4k TV already upscales automatically so it's just a marketing gimmick really

You need a 4k player and TV to play UHD's

Leave the 24 fps conversion setting OFF.

You do need a UHD Blu-ray player to play the new "4k" discs. Your machine only upscales DVD's and 1080p Blu-ray's.

Is this player worth keeping? I'm planning on buying a TV and the promotion is giving me this blu Ray player or an Xbox 1 s. I figured I would end up buying an OPPO down the line so I was planning on just getting the Xbox and selling it but wondering now if it's work keeping in the mean time?

I think you need to ask the Xbox thread if it's a worthy UHD player. Personally, I'd much rather have this dedicated player for UHD watching than a gaming console. I really like this player and have not had any issues with it (knock on wood).

I had an xbox one s and it was awful. kept jumping. audio kept going out of sync. Microsoft told me there was nothing wrong with the box it was the disc. in the end I got fed up and bought the Samsung player instead.

I'm going to switch what i bought for this player. Do I need to get a High-speed HDMI cable or will my regular one work?
