They sell the UBD-M8500 and via Magnolia sell UBD-M9500, its a old model.

According to 4kfilme.de in Germany, Samsung will come with 2 new models of 4K Ultra HD blu-ray players this year. UBD-M8500 and UBD-M9500. Release date for Europe is in May. Only the UBD-M9500 will have Bluetooth headphone support, and the UBD-M8500 will also not have the second HDMI out for audio.

I saw the new players. I just hadn't realized they discontinued the K8500.

question, i got this player and a js8500 TV, when watching 4K HDR movies, do i leave the picture setting on TV to bd-wise or movie? i heard something about gamma curve being more accurate with bd-wise but 10points is disabled, yet movie-mode looks alil too red and is brighter. bd wise feels more balanced with hdr movies but lacking any punch. really curious what i should use

I could be off, but I believe BD Wise means that for example if you are watching a 1080 blu, the player will automatically send out a 1080 signal (not upscale before the tv does).

it looks like it's just more than that, but it does send the original resolution source to TV, dvds keep get sent out as 480p, blu rays as 1080, 4k etc etc. Both picture modes detect HDR content. Interestingly enough, the cartooney color saturation is absent in BDWISE

So I started having issues with the player after almost 2 years. It seems the HDMI port on the player itself is faulty or has some sort of short circuit because the image comes on and off on the TV. I made sure it wasn't the TV HDMI port but it turns out its an issue with the player. I have the player registered on Samsung's site, will they cover this issue under warranty?

The warranty via Samsung was only for 12 months. So unless you got an after market warranty, your probably better off replacing.

It sucks that it has to come down to replacing the player only for a faulty HDMI port on the player that could easily be replaced. Aside from that it seems to work great since I get to hear the audio but no picture on the display. Or sometimes the picture just comes on and off.

The weirdest thing just happened a couple of days ago. My Samsung UHD Player just quick playing Dolby TrueHD soundtracks, but still plays DTS Master Audio. The same time it happened, my LG OLED updated, and I was wondering if that update had something to do with blu-ray player not playing Dolby True HD anymore. I've already contact Samsung, and they are going to email me a return label to ship the unit to their facility to get it repaired. Instead of going through all of that hassle, I just decided to sell it to a local used electronic / media store, and buy the Oppo 203.

Its not the HMDI cable. I tried multiple and its still acting up. I dont think I have it on but Ive had Deep Colour from the player On before and I was never getting this issue so I doubt its that. It appears to be the output HMDI port on the player.

Exclamation Picture comes on and off (Issue)

I was looking deeper into this and it turns out the player ins't defective (or so it doesn't appear to be). There is an issue currently going on with the player and its affected a lot of Samsung consumers it seems (Link here).

The issue is that the image comes on and off. Loses the picture for 3-5 seconds and then comes back up. I've had this player since mid 2016 and this just started happening now, it's pretty strange it would happen at this point.

Are you guys experiencing this issue and if so what else can be done about this? I did the Solution where I hard reseted the player and it does nothing to this issue. Very frustrating to watch something and have the image come on and off.

Also, I have the latest firmware update of version 1012.

I was having this issue watching Amazon and Netflix streaming services. Constantly blanked out for seconds at a time. Seriously was annoying. Then I remembered that I had set the color to Force 4:4:4 and turned it back to Auto.

Problem solved.

I got the advice from this website:

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/audio/Sam...8500_Tips.html

"General Tips for Samsung UBD-K8500 Users:
Don't set (force) the UBD-K8500 Color Format to 4:4:4 - use the (default) "Auto" setting. 4k/UHD (10-bit) and blu-ray (8-bit) discs are encoded 4:2:0. With the player desktop (home screen) at 4K/UHD 60Hz, even 8-Bit UHD 60Hz 4:4:4 is just under the 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 max and with many cables may not be reliable. (4K 60Hz 10-Bit 4:4:4 exceeds the HDMI 2.0 spec. For 4K/UHD 60Hz 10-Bit, only 4:2:0 is supported per HDMI 2.0 spec. 12-bit 4:2:2 is supported.) Even at 8-Bit, the problems with 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 player home screen is typically because the cable used can't handle 8-Bit 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 (17.82Gbps IIRC) - just under the HDMI 2.0 18Gbps spec max. 1080P players usually had a 4:2:2 option, but not the UBD-K8500 although it reportedly outputs 4:4:4 with "Auto" Color Format setting when playing 24fps (24P) content like Blu-Ray and UHD movie discs.

Since it outputs 4:4:4 for 24P disc playback using "Auto" color format setting - why force 4:4:4 (always) when it has the potential fsor problems at the player 60Hz home screen. (4K/24P 10-bit 4:4:4 is a HDMI 2.0 supported format, as well as 4:2:2 but not 4:2:0 so the player has to convert the disc's 4K/24P 4:2:0.) But if you set the player's Color Format to 4:4:4, it will always use that - even for the 60fps (4k/UHD) desktop/home screen - which caused loss of video with his setup/cables when outputting 4K 60Hz.

Tested 4K 60Hz (forced) 4:4:4 home screen again with a more expensive 3M cable he had on hand (brand name I won't mention, but infamous for outrageous prices) - instantly resulted no video. (4K/24P playback wasn't a problem even with the amazon high-speed 6ft cable.) Changed (reset) from 4:4:4 back to "Auto", no problems. (I'm sure some say they had better results with different cables (maybe BJC), but I lost count of how many have had problems after forcing 4:4:4 with the player's 4K/60Hz home screen.)
None of the cables on hand were reliable with forced 4:4:4 player setting at the 60Hz player home screen. (A better cable certified for 18Gbps rates may have helped, but forcing 4:4:4 was still a problem with claimed "Up to" 18Gbps 6ft and 3M cables he had using a direct connect to an LG 55EF9500 with HDMI port set for UHD, and working reliably for 4K/24P HDR discs.) Using "Auto" vs forced 4:4:4 was reliable for the 4K/60Hz home screen. (Again, "Auto" setting uses 4:4:4 for 24P discs without the 60Hz desktop problems seen with forced 4:4:4 using the cables he had.)"

Thank you. Trust me I did a deep research on this and stumbled upon that site as well. Color is set to Auto and I still have this problem. Whenever I pick 4:4:4 color then is when I dont have an image so I have to go ahead and hard reset the player to get an image back on. Deep Color I have toggled between Auto and Off and still does the same thing. Also, funny thing is that back then I could pick 4:4:4, RGB and RGB (Enhanced) no problems but now its acting up when selection either options.

I have a 3ft 4K HDMI by Fusion connected and its been connected on the player ever since I bought it.

Any other tips you or anyone might know please free to let me know. I really appreciate you bringing this up to me.

Its truly annoying to have the image drop randomly for 3-5 seconds.

So my remotes aren't working for my Player now. My Samsung remote that I got off of eBay was dropped by either the wife or the toddler (Can't say for sure which as the wife would totally let our daughter take the wrap for it) and the entire back left side is cracked and separated. (This makes me think that my wife dropped it off the mantle on to the hearth) I am a bit bummed about this as I really thought that remote was a vast improvement over the factory remote.

Speaking of which, the factory remote isn't working either. I only used the thing sporadically for about a month or so last year before getting the better remote. Could the battery be dead already? I have some 2032 batteries at work I will be bringing home to test that theory.

Yup. The battery on the factory remote was just dead. New battery in it and it works perfectly.

My wife ordered the K8500 for me off Amazon. Cant wait to get it and pair it with my Samsung 55inch KU6500 and get my 4K collection rolling.
