I turned my HT system on this morning and the Samsung K8500 produced an on-screen message there was a firmware update available. As background I updated my JVC RS600 projector's firmware last week. That update to the JVC projectors was intended to solve some compatibility issues with the Samsung K8500. . Even before that update to the projector, I hadn't been having many issues with the K8500 menus or content not displaying on my RS600. I did have some occasional signal dropouts when playing 2160p/60Hz YouTube videos. My setup has the K8500 connected to a Denon X6200W AVR and the Denon AVR connected to the JVC. After last week's update to the JVC projector's firmware, everything seemed to be working OK, as far as compatibility between the K8500 and the JVC projector.
Now as to new firmware release for the K8500, A few seconds after I began the firmware update for the K8500, the JVC projector showed a "no signal" message and even after waiting 30+ minutes the K8500's output never can back, I ended up turning the K8500 off then back on but still no signal to the RS600. I tried turning the RS600 off but it would not respond to the JVC remote (locked up). I had to pull the RS600's power cord. Eventially I had to power cycle the K8500 and insert a disc in the K8500 and power the JVC back up to get the K8500's output displaying on the RS600 again. Now with the new Samsung firmware in the K8500 (ver. 1004) I'm having connection issues big time between the K8500 and the RS600 (far worse than ever before). I'm now consistently getting a no signal message and must load a disc in the player and wait some time then then RS600 will eventually display the K8500 output. It appears that whatever JVC did in their recent firmware update to the projector for improved compatibility with the K8500 has now been completely foiled by what Samsung has done in their firmware update to the K8500. My guess is the new Samsung firmware has introduced some HDMI EDID errors. Last edited by ronjones; 04-04-2016 at 10:06 PM. |

Does the new firmware finally bring YCbCr 4:2:0 support?

The new firmware definitely bricked this player. Now I have to insert a disc in order to get the picture to come up. Otherwise I get a No Signal error. Samsung better get this fixed quick. I don't even know what the hell this firmware was supposed to improve. I didn't see anything different in the apps and obviously the performance is worse.

No worries... I plan to return the player tomorrow at the store, just as any normal person would. Case closed - 44.95 days later. This whole thing sucks.

I went to watch a video on you tube after the latest firmware upgrade and it loses the signal. After multiple tries to get the signal back I had to unplug the machine and plug it back in. Samsung needs to fix this. Apparently I am not the only one with this issue, anyone else run into this problem?

I am glad to see that Best Buy is carrying the world’s first native Samsung 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player along with a total of 24 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles on the shelf. However, Best Buy should really start placing this Blu-ray player on display with a 4K Ultra HD movie or demo disc on a continuous loop. In addition, Best Buy should connect their LG OLED 4K Ultra HD display to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. I suggested this to one of the Best Buy salesmen and they told me that a while ago they suggested to their boss that the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player should be connected to a 4K Ultra HD OLED display. However, their boss was against the idea for some reason.
Retail stores need to start running demos of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs on 4K displays. Many 4K displays are connected to a 4K hard drive demo, etc. |
