Im hoping they can add that feature on some the 2015 models where you can tell if you are in HDR mode. One would think eventually you could have a option of turning HDR mode on and off unless i'm late and their already is a way i'm unaware of???

Panny UHD player, that may or may not be sold here, can strip away HDR, the Samsung can't and prob wont be able to in this year's model.

I tried to connect the Samsung directly to the TV bypassing the receiver, i switched resolution to 2160, and as soon as I switched to ycbcr 444 I lost video signal.
Ever since then I have had NO video signal, just audio.
I tried to reconnect Samsung through the receiver, even tried the player with my HD projectors, and same thing still. No video, just audio

Is there any way to perform a factory reset on a player without having to look at the screen display?

Hold down the Stop Button (on player) for 5 seconds without a disc in the player.

Hi Guys,
I got the player yesterday and tried MAD MAX 4k. Questions:

1- How do I know the movie disc is letterbox ratio(The annoy black bars)? If I'm spending $30 for 4k disc better be full screen, I hate those black bars. I also don't think cropping it to full screen will be the solution as picture detail will be lost.

2- I played Avengers blue ray disc(Up-scaling) and the picture quality was pretty good compare with the MAD MAX 4k. Don't know if was because the letterbox aspect ratio or what. How do I know it is been up scaling?

3- How to see the actual resolution displaying?

I have UHD HDMI on in mt TV and deep color is on on the player. What other setting do I need to get the best video quality?

Thanks in advance.

If you see an aspect ratio on the back of the box that is anything other than 1.78 you are going to see those black bars. You can spend as much or as little as you'd like, they are going to be there if the aspect ratio is anything else, even 1.85 is going to have little black bars you can barely see. The higher that number the bigger the black bars, so 2.35 or 2.40 means bigger black bars. Time to break out the old zoom or stretch buttons if they bother you that much... but as you've noted you will be making other sacrifices in doing so. Time to embrace the bars! They are there for a reason.

Got you. Thanks

I don't mind to watch them with the black bars just not going to buy the 4k disc if is like that. Most of these movies I watch them at the theater or torrents. lol

Dumb question.. does this player support resume? Stopped Sicario about an hour in last night because I couldn't keep my eyes open, when I turned the player on again earlier it started from top.

I do not support piracy.

The Blu-ray is going to have the exact same aspect ratio as the UHD Blu-ray. The black bars are there, so you can see the entire theatrical cinema composition.

I believe every UHD I've played thus far gives you the option to resume where you left off.

4k movies will have black bars too. It all depends on how the director chooses to film their movie

Yeah, but you don't see the bars in the theater as the screen is that ratio already. BUT TV aren't like that. I guess I need to buy a 85" tv for that theatrical cinema.

Of course the Samsung puts out SDR 2160p but only if the display doesn't support HDR. I don't know why they don't add a switch for HDR to the players menu...

Yes, but that's how the disc is programed and has nothing to do with the players capabilities. Most discs show the usual studio logos and piracy warnings before you are asked to resume the film.

Has any of you experienced issues setting player at 2160 and ycbcr 444 at the same time? Mine let's me do either one or the other or video blacks out. I have to leave one of the two on Auto in order to not lose video signal

True. But once you're past the logos and warnings, it goes to the Resume screen.

Thanks. I did that. It worked but it seems that every time I set resolution to 2160 and color range to ycbcr 444 I lose video signal. I have to leave one of the two on Auto in order not to lose video signal. I even tried to connect player directly to TV bypassing my Denon receiver and got the same result!

Let me know how it goes. If you lose video signal just perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the Stop button from the player, not from the remote
