Has anyone had trouble playing back a UHD VUDU title on theirs yet? Mine will only play the HDX version of Fury Road (the only UHD title I own on VUDU).

Especially since I don't accidentally hit other buttons any more.

Here is the link to the ebay sale I got mine from. They have sold over eight hundred of these remotes. Mine arrived in a few days after ordering.

Although it looks like they don't have many left now. I think a lot of people with the K8500 picked up one of these larger remotes. And the price is now $7.45. It was $8 when I ordered mine in early May.
Man....I can't thank you enough for that link. I can't wait to have something better than that piece of shit it came with. Not only for the FF/REW buttons, but a bigger directional pad alone was worth it.

I don't think the VUDU app for this player supports UHD versions of the movies. From VUDU, if you go to "Collections" you'll notice that the "VUDU UHD" is not even listed. That tells me it is not supported on this version of the app.

I dont understand how a $400 player can have a worse remote than even older models! You literally have to open the Tool menu, scroll down to Subtitles, and select Subtitle Language of your choice!!!
With my 2014 Samsung player I just hit the Subtitles button, that easy!

Just and FYI, if you use any kind of higher end programmable universal remote, the codes are available for subtitles, tools, FF, skip, numbers, etc. even though they may not be on the remote that comes with the player.

Also, agree that the fast forwarding is a bit dumb, but with a full number pad, you can press the right arrow and key in a number to jump to a point in time to the movie. Of course not easily done with the original remote.

With the original remote, if you want to rw/ff within the same scene you have to "press and hold"...Needless to say, you always end up skipping to the next scene by accident, very frustrating. They should have two separate ff/rw sets of buttons

Yes. It has all of the same buttons as the included remote and more.

Noticed something odd with my UBD-K8500 yesterday. I did something that I haven't done in years: watched a DVD.

I held on to a few TV DVDs which I knew had no chance of getting an HD upgrade. Pulled out Titus Season 1 and popped it in. It looked awful when it first started up, scan lines all throughout the image. After a few seconds, the screen went blank and the audio dropped out for a second. When it came back on, the scan lines were gone. This happened one or two more times once I started an episode. I'm guessing the player is detecting the video format and adjusting accordingly, but shouldn't it already be doing this before hand?

At one point we had it paused for an extended period of time, maybe 20 minutes. When I came back to it, it would do this blank screen thing every few minutes. The only way to get to stop was to turn the player off an back on again. Has anyone else tried watching a DVD on their 8500 and if so, have you noticed similar behavior? Is there something in the players' settings that I might have missed?

Been playing lots of DVDs on mine with no issue, actually I was impressed with how fast the player can switch gears from BD to DVD

My copy of Sicario refused to play on the K8500 and it looks like I'm not the only one who ran across this issue.

Is it the player and an incompatibility... or is there a large batch of bum discs in the field? All my other 4k discs play fine.

If you have the latest firmware update installed then it must be a problem with the optical disc being defective. This Sicario 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray review written back on March 8th 2016 had to use the Samsung 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Exchanging the Blu-ray disc should solve the problem.

Here is some interesting info:

quote:

"Dolby Vision material is currently available only via streaming from sites such as Vudu. According to Dolby, there will be Dolby Vision Ultra HD Blu-ray releases later in the year. As I write this, however, the only UHD Blu-ray player is the Samsung UBD-K8500 (reviewed in our June issue, also available at soundandvision.com), which does not recognize or pass through Dolby Vision bitstreams. This shouldn’t leave early adopters high and dry, though. All UHD Blu-rays offering Dolby Vision must also offer HDR10; no UHD Blu-rays will be mastered in Dolby Vision alone."

Maybe later. It seems like others have gone through multiple copies. I'll try for The Martian: Extended Cut, or if that is a no-go with Walmart, I'll pick up Labyrinth instead.

I'm impressed with how fast this player is. Every other stand alone player I've had took forever to load up a disc. I wonder if maybe the issue I ran into was caused by my receiver changing resolutions? Not a huge deal though.

I wouldn't expect the XBOne S to be better than the K8500 for UHD BD playback.
