I was actually going to sell this player because I'm getting a One S but I've changed my mind. I ran into an issue playing movies on my dads Xbox One that I can't seem to fix. I wouldn't want to have that happen on my only UHD player. So I'll be keeping this.

Yeah not sure what is wrong with the Xbox, but I get an error code each time I pop a Blu-ray in and can't play any movies. I actually had to redeem my UV doe with 13 Hours just to watch it over my parents. I tried everything listed online to fix it like shutting it off, unplugging it, reinstalling Blu-ray app, etc.. nothing worked. At least the Samsung has played everything I've thrown at it.

The XBOne S is a multi-purpose machine. While it will do a multitude of things, based on the XBOne Fat, there are still issues. Audio channels are not mapped correctly with a 7.1 and higher system when using the HDMI input and some apps. Game audio and BD playback is fine though. But if the XBOne had bitstreaming this would not be a problem. Also the XBOne Fat is limited to a 48Khz sampling rate, So if playing 96Khz or 192Khz content, it is downsampled to 48Khz. Hopefully this is something that is corrected with newer hardware. But ultimately, like with Atmos or DTS:X, the vast majority of people will not be affected by it.
I will still be getting two XBOne S boxes to replace my launch XBOne and December 2013 XBOne. The only question is when I get them. I really don't want a 2TB model since I use much faster external drives. But I might be forced into it so I can play Forza Horizon 3 in HDR. |

Well, I guess this is a little better than anecdotal evidence...

But their Sony receiver has HDCP 2.2. It needs HDMI 2.0a or higher for HDR. This is why two HDMI outputs are needed. So you can bypass a receiver without HDMI 2.0a and go straight to the TV(with HDMI 2.0a/b and HDCP 2.2) to be able to playback HDR content. Then you use HDMI 2 output for audio to the receiver.

But not only that, remember that you have HDMI 2.0a at 30Hz and HDMI 2.0a at 60HZ. 30Hz will only let you stream in UHD but only 60Hz will also let you play blurays in UHD. My Denon receiver has all 8 Inputs and 2 Outputs HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI 2.0a@60Hz. A lot of people with HDMI 2.0a@30Hz will watch a UHD bluray in 1080 and probably not even realize it if it wasnt for the TV Display Info showing them ![]() |
