You won't.

I'm really picky and the dark walls in my theater help in blend. Sometimes I don't even notice at all, especially in 3D.

Consider it projection mapping.

I do wish projectors or players had thicker electronic masking to cover it.

Unfortunately, at least in the case of the movies I've watched, the standard blu-rays, don't have Atmos or DTS:X.

Another frustrating thing for me is Star Trek: Into Darkness has shifting aspect ratios. That's something I can handle with regular blu-rays, but won't be able to deal with once I have a 4k display...at least not without spending several thousand more dollars. That's not a 4k -> 1080p issue though.
But isn't that the way it was in the theater too? Just like Batman movies or Transformer movies? Only the scenes filmed with IMAX cameras fill the screen. Personally I have no problem with it. Especially since the IMAX scenes looked superb from the UHD BD with my K8500.

Last night I started to notice a random "stutter" while playing a few blurays, similar to the occasional hiccup that you might get when the disc is dirty or lightly scratched. Do you think powering off/on player or a factory reset could fix it?

I notice just the little bit of light from the projector when it's a black bar below the screen. I would definitely notice the picture (and have in instances when I've blown up 16:9 content). It's very noticeable IMO.

It is how it is in the theater, but if I'm going to do it that way, I have to watch the movie much smaller than I normally would.

I have to choose between watching it small or having it spill outside of the screen in those scenes.

This is the issue:

What color are your walls?

I'm not saying it is not noticeable I'm saying with a white screen and dark walls it is much less noticeable and when you're paying attention to the content it's not really a big deal.

Google the concept video for' Xbox projection mapping' and you'll see what I mean. (Obviously it's much more noticeable in the video that you watch)

It's something you'll get used to.

My screen wall is completely black.

This is just something that is very noticeable and distracting to me. Bars on the side (or top/bottom at the theater) are bad enough when there isn't masking. And like I said, even when I can tell the light from the projector for black bars is below the screen it bothers me. This is magnitudes more significant than either of those issues, and something I spent a good deal of money to prevent with standard blu-rays, just for the handful of titles that have it.

Well, first I can tell you that a better projector with better black levels will make it impossible to see the black bars, JVC is a great example (I noticed a black bar slightly on my old Panasonic).

Second, when I first got my Cinemascope screen switching aspect ratio movies drove me insane (Nolan!!!)...

Now, I'm usually so invested in the movie that it doesn't bother me.

Can either a soft reset or factory reset help my situation in your opinion?

Well a new projector is down the line a bit. Maybe a used 4k Lumagen can be had for something reasonable by that point.

Anybody having an issue when you forward or reverse through BD's the player gives you an error message saying the disc is dirty or needs to be cleaned? This is usually at a mode faster than 3x.........

I gotta wonder if Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, didn't short the processing power needed... Either that or their software doesn't allocate enough RAM memory for video buffering... So, the player chokes if it has to perform an intensive task.

Had the same issue watching Creed over the weekend. Had to stop playback and play again. Was just glad it resumed from the spot I got the error. Hopefully it will be fixed with a firmware update

All in all still happy with the player as a 1st generation especially when compared to 1st gen Blu-Ray players

The new Epson's that will be shown at CEDIA sound interesting. Still 1080p but with 4k enhancement and HDR!

I have never run across this issue on either K8500 I've owned. And I've used FF/REW at 7X a bunch of times.

have you tried to do a soft reset? I had an issue with frame-skipping/stuttering and a soft reset solved the problem

I bought the Samsung UHD player when it came out in the UK at the same time I purchased The Samsung UE55KS7000 SUHD 4K TV. The Martian 4K came with the player and to be honest it looked worse than playing the standard Bluray on my pioneer. The picture was much more vivid and colourful on my Pioneer in 1080P!

I persevered by buying The Revenant and Deadpool on 4K UHD Bluray but to be honest I couldn't see any difference,in fact there was less detail on the Deadpool UHD disc than the 1080P Bluray. The Revenant was about the same, so I took it back. I tried testing it for two days but in the end I gave up. I paid £410.00 and it was a waste of money.

We also have The Panasonic DMP-900 UHD player out in the UK. I went to the local to showroom to see that in action and that was very disappointing as well. I really was looking forward to the next generation of discs etc but it's been rather underwhelming so far. I just couldn't see the difference. There was no jump in quality or wow factor from the HDR. Netflix UHD looks damn good though on my 4K tv though. UHD Bluray not as good.

It's the exact opposite for me, I got the exact same TV and player and I've watched Life of Pi, ID4 and The Revenant on it and they all looked absolutely stunning. The Revenant especially, the way the sun shines so brightly through the trees is amazing. And the colours in Life of Pi are something else.

Netflix and Amazon UHD look good, but no HDR from what I can tell and there is a noticeable difference between streaming and disc playback. UHDBDs look much better than the stuff I watched on Netflix and Amazon, that's not to say they looked bad though.

I highly doubt everything was set up in both your TV and the player correctly and you may not have HDMI cables that can actually handle the extra video bandwidth (this is a real problem for some cables as has been documented).

This early generation UHD technology is not plug and play, unfortunately. It takes some particular settings choices and careful calibration. Even many dealers don't have everything properly set.

I have five UHD Blu-ray discs and they all look superior on my 55" Samsung SUHD 8500 (2015 HDR10 compatible model) to the 1080p Blu-ray's given they are from a mix of digital 4k, 35mm, and upconverted 2k sources.

I also bought new Premium Certified HDMI cables just to be certain that my older cables didn't give me grief. They were from Monoprice and not very expensive, but so far so good.
