Awesome Marantz and system you have. On mine, I have the pre-outs running through a Peachtree powering the fronts right now. Sounds really nice. Never had a separate amp powering fronts before.
Thank you. I'm running a Paradigm Studio speaker setup with HSU subwoofer and ATI amplifier. It's fantastic!

Here's a basic layout... hope you can read it... for a 5.1.2 Atmos setup.

Your side surrounds should be just above seated head level in order to maintain a larger separation between the main layer of speakers and the overheads. In a 5.1.2 setup, the overheads are normally in the Top Middle position about a foot or two in front of the main listening position.

Since more studios are starting to make immersive audio exclusive to UHD Blu-ray, it would behoove you to consider a UHD player, like the Samsung, at some point (just not the Xbox S as I mentioned), so you can cover all your bases.

Considering HDR is more important a factor than the resolution increase and is present on every UHD Blu-ray Disc, yes it was weird and unwise. There has been mass discussion across the Internet with people trying to figure out if they are watching HDR followed by the response "backlight should be all the way up, contrast at 100" etc. I swear I've read that question and answer 1,000 times by now.

Very nice system, indeed! Well done. It must be a real pleasure to kick back, relax and enjoy a film or two at leisure. I am seriously considering the Samsung since I already own two Samsung components and I am very satisfied with their products. Thanks for the placement diagram. My placement is a bit different at the moment so I will have to adjust and rerun Audyssey once my arrangement is in the proper location and overheads are added. This is all really exciting stuff.

Should I set contrast and back light to 100? [emoji4]

If you're running speaker wire for overheads, you might as well run four more and be ready if you ever upgrade to a 5.1.4 receiver model or greater. Far be it for me to suggest even more speakers.

How are the Atmos-enabled speakers with vertical drivers that are placed on top of the fronts? I may have to go that route instead of mounting on the ceiling for aesthetic reasons for now. I think that they are versatile enough to be used as surrounds also.

Ohhh, yes, I'm a firm believer that more speakers are never a bad idea

I started a new thread in the home theater section but thought I would also post here in the dedicated Samsung thread in the hopes that someone might be able to help me out....

Hi all,

I really am in need of help here. I have been upgrading my home theater lately and now that I think I am done, I am having the most difficult time with HDMI hiccups (I think)

So, here is what I have:

The JVC RS400u 4K e-shift projector
the Marantz SR5010 receiver with Outlaw Audio 7125 amp (connected by the Marantz pre-outs)
Samsung UBD-k8500
Seiki region free 4K upscaling BDP
Cabernet Ultra CL2 Active High Speed HDMI® Cable, 35ft

all of this is projected onto a 158 anamorphic screen.

Now, here is where things go south for me...It's nearly impossible to get a picture on the Samsung / JVC. I have literally run the new HDMI 4K cable directly into the projector from the player as running it through the Marantz will never ever give me a picture. Doing it this way will SOMETIMES get me a picture. The other HDMI audio out on the Samsung I have running into the receiver for sound.

My Seiki player has a much shorter 4k ready HDMI cable running through the Marantz and at least once or twice during a movie I lose the picture and have to turn off the receiver to get picture back.

Something is not working and I don't know what it is. Before the Marantz and Samsung I never ever had a problem and I thought the brand new JVC 4k-eshift was supposed to handle this stuff? Can anyone help me out? Are there settings on either the player, receiver or projector that I have wrong? I'm close to just selling the Marantz and Samsung and going back to my old Sony 4k upscaling player and older Onkyo 828 with pre-outs. Neither ever gave me issues for several years.

For one thing, the JVC is notoriously slow about HDMI handshaking.

For another, the only long cables I know of that seem to consistently work are the FE series Belden cables from Blue Jeans Cable. However, even 35 feet is stretching it for full bandwidth 4k signals. You need to find a way to shorten the pathway to the projector to no longer than about 25 feet. HDMI sucks and active cables are sometimes flaky with 4k due to HDCP 2.2 protocols.

Then, you need to set up a turn on sequence delay: Display first, wait about five seconds, Marantz next, wait about five seconds, then turn on the source player or streamer. That will many times help with handshaking reliability.

I am using a 35ft 10m him cable successfully zero issue with Samsung-marantz -jvc combo., have played about 14 uhd blu-Ray's so far. It's not a problem. And no need to restrict to 25ft.

There are so many variables to count, but one issue can be cable length besides lack of proper bandwidth.

thanks both for this info. I literally have no way of shortening the length unless I somehow mount the Samsung right beside the projector on the ceiling. Otherwise, I have to have that long of a cable running from back of room to front where screen and all equipment is. Even the Marantz is glitchy as hell with 4K upscaling with a cheap Seiki BDP. I had no idea it would be this difficult. In fact, the mono price HDMI 2.2 cable I bought has rave reviews for working up to 50 ft sending 4k

There is no need to shorten. The sammy marantz jvc combo will work with the right cable over 10m/35ft as can attest. Toss the seiki bdp if it is buggy. But no issue with the sammy

so, for the sake of argument here, if I were actually able to somehow mount the Samsung beside the JVC projector on the ceiling, what very short 4k HDMI cable would you recommend I get that can easily send the signal and allow playback of UHD? This is probably what I will end up having to do. I see no other option at the moment.

Why when can actually utilise as intended. As far as really short... Just about anything. I just use a short generic cable sammy to marantz. It's the long length 10m to jvc where cable selection is important and any old thing won't work. But with the right cable there is no issue. Have been running my combo for couple of months now and with so many discs through really there's no issue to report. Just works

What cable and what model are you using? That would definitely help.
